Guitar building is many things, but easy isn't one of them. It takes a lot of skill and know-how, not to mention experience, to become a world-class luthier. Fortunately, Guild has all of those traits in spades. The company got its start in 1953, building instruments that they described as "made to be played" - and there are no better words to sum up Guild 12-string acoustic guitars. They're the perfect way to take the build quality and sound that made Guild famous and kick it up a notch. With the added power of doubled strings, you get a guitar that goes above and beyond the wildest dreams of a standard acoustic.

It won't surprise you to find that Guild's 12-strings feature large, resonant bodies to help them deliver bigger, richer sound. Some modern examples of that can be found in the GAD series, with the F-1512 and F-1512E jumbo guitars. The difference between these two comes down to electronics: the F-1512 is acoustic, and the F-1512E is acoustic-electric. That makes the 'E' model the way to go if you want direct amplification, microphone-free recording or the use of effects units.

If you're interested in a more vintage look and feel, you should take a look at the F-412 models. The Guild F-412 Jumbo 12-String Acoustic Guitar is a real classic, based on the legendary F-50 six-string. For a plugged-in version, consider the F-412 Acoustic-Electric Guitar with DTAR Multi-Source Pickup System. Both of these instruments feature Guild's signature arched back design, which creates extra volume to make them sound big even by 12-string standards.

At the end of the day, your choice between modern or vintage-inspired guitars is a personal one. It comes down to your playing style, musical genre and simply the feel that works best for you. If there's one thing that's certain across the board, though, it's this: that once you play a Guild 12-string acoustic guitar of your own, there's no going back. They really are that excellent.
