5-string bass pickups go vintage with the DiMarzio DP552 Area J Jazz 5-String Bass Neck/Bridge Pickup Set. Like the original Area J, the Area J 5 was designed for warmth, sustain, and a clean, singing tone. The low-pull magnetic field allows the strings to ring clearly and enhances the sound of the low B string. And like all DiMarzio bass pickups, the Area J 5 cancels hum. With medium output and a very balanced tone, the Area J 5 works equally well with passive and active electronics.
Recommended For: Neck and bridge positions
Tech Talk: The Area J 5 is not a high-output pickup, but it has a lot of headroom in terms of dynamic range. It can also be custom-tuned with different control values. 250K controls produce a very round, classic J sound, while 500K controls introduce more attack and treble response.
Warmth, sustain, and a clean, singing tone.

Comments about DiMarzio DP552 Area J Jazz 5-String Bass Neck/Bridge Pickup Set:
I bought these pickups to upgrade a Squier Deluxe Active Jazz 5. They were a perfect fit with no modification required. They are paired with a Bartolini NTMB preamp and the combination is perfection. Slap tones with both pickups are clean and clear, bridge pickup soloed is burpy and strong, neck pickup soloed is deep and full. These pickups never sound anemic or lacking in power, and output is balanced across all strings. Bass is deep and full without being boomy, mids are strong and edgy when pushed, highs are articulate without that annoying "clanginess" and finger noise. They are very responsive to my right hand. I played 2 sets yesterday and got many compliments. I am 100% pleased with these Dimarzio's because the stock pickups did not have the clarity I needed and they did not bring out the fullness of the B string. These are advertised as medium output but they are hotter than the stock pickup even with 250K pots. I do believe you will be pleased with these pickups.
