OVERVIEW

Get the distinct vintage growl of the '70s Jazz Bass.

Fans of the Jazz Bass know that jazz bass pickups built by Fender in the 1970s sound very different from the pickups used in the '60s. The '70s versions have a brighter, more strident tone that is perfect for slapping, funk and R&B. They are also perfect for many rock styles. An example of this sound range from the rock stylings of Geddy Lee to Marcus Millers Jazz/Funk inflections.

Because pickup windings and materials varied so much throughout the '70s, Aguilar used several pickups from different years as their sonic models. Through a process of listening and prototyping they discovered the very small gradations of wire size and winding patterns that reproduce the bright and deep sound of the 70s jazz bass pickup.

The AG 4J-70 pickups complement any bass and are a great match with Aguilars OBP on-board preamps. Available as a calibrated neck and bridge pickup set (also available separately) for 4-string basses, the AG 4J-70 pickups are direct replacements for Jazz Bass style basses.

Comments about Aguilar AG 4J-70 70's Era 4-String Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

I own Standard Fender Jazz Bass. I have a few upgrade items on my list and I chose to change pickup first instead of bridge, and I do not regret. I have owned stock Fender pickup, Bassline, Bartolini pickups and personally I feel Aguilar Pickup is the best one for me so far. Aguilar has warm but clean slap tone with somewhat modern feel although it is a '70s pickup, which I find very interesting. Previous pickup that was installed on my bass was Bassline, and after the installation, my first response to the luthier was whether he changed the strings. it changed the tone that much. it is so bright that it almost felt like i installed a new string, it's that bright and clean. it's got a great slap tone and great for fingering as well. i think it is perfect substitute pickup for fender.

Comments about Aguilar AG 4J-70 70's Era 4-String Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

These replaced some microphonic SD antiquities and couldn't be happier. A little more high end clarity and a less boomy low end.
