I've tried a lot things to keep from tearing nails when I play and the only alternative to Alaska picks I've found that permits my playing style is false nails (that destroy my already thin nails). I don't perform without them.

While touring In the mid-60s, substituted a flat pick for a thumb pick to to go back and forth between straight rhythm and finger picking patterns found the flexibility liberating. I eventually began using dental plastic as a false nail on my 3rd, 4th, and 5th fingernails so I could play harder. I stopped using the false nails when I quit touring but found that my nails (which were always thin) would tear if I played with any force. I read about the Alaska picks in a magazine interview with a well known finger picker and after a tough search found a folk music center that carried them. It took a few days of practice to get familiar with the slight technique and feel differences, but after a few weeks, it was remarkably like using false nails. I seldom play guitar now without wearing them.

I also play 5-string banjo and discovered that the Alaska picks work just as well as my finger picks so I stopped using the metal picks (though I do use a thumb pick). A benefit here is that I can now go back and forth between frailing and finger picking in mid-song.

I keep two Alaska picks with every one of my instruments and wouldn't do a live show without them. JB

They last quite a long time, and the only negative I've found is the plastic is not always consistent from pick to pick, so on occasion I get one that will not stay in place. I've also found that they can get flattened if pressed against something in the case, but the plastic has a memory and returns to it's original shape when put into very hot water.
They are a bargain even at full list price

When ordered - the sizing was small, med, large - but no estimate of what those were. I have medium sized fingers, in my opinion, so I ordered as such. The piks were only able to fit on my pinky! It would have helped to have a measurement scale or such. Since they were inexpensive, it wasn't worth returning, unfortunately.

Comments about Alaska Pik Finger Guitar Pick:

Putting some serious practice time into these is so worth it! Had a few sets of sizes of these pics and could not stand them and left in my case. Took a fingerstyle blues class with a master and watched him play with them while I picked bare finger. Went back and invested a weekend with them and finally mastered pic and technique. My teacher said the sharp nail edges can sound harsh at first but need to be sanded rounder to give a warm tone. It's a little strange how they slip under the nail, but are actually quite comfortable, even playing for hours. Also had to learn the proper length of nail to keep them from popping loose, but now they have become second nature, deliver a nice sound even in a jam, and I really like them a lot. Even though they seem very flexible and possibly flimsy, I haven't broken any yet after a year of hard regular use.

Comments about Alaska Pik Finger Guitar Pick:

I've never been able to grow finger nails long enough for fingerpicking so I ordered Alaska Piks as a work around. After a few days, I'm getting used to using them and like the sound. They do require some customization before you can use them properly - I had to cut away part of the band that made them tight on my fingers and I still need to trim the length of the nail section of the pick. Once you get a good fit, they are good for fingerpicking. Alaska Piks has some video on YouTube that covers customizations that are needed. Watch these before changing them.

not the solution I'd hoped for

Comments about Alaska Pik Finger Guitar Pick:

I've tried several kinds of fingerpicks after giving up on fake nails (too toxic). I was hopeful these would work, but I was disappointed that they were made so poorly. I think the design is sound, but the plastic has sharp edges that make them uncomfortable to wear. They also tended too move even after downsizing to make them fit tighter. Not the solution I was seeking. That being said, fingerpicks are a very individual preference item, so if you haven't found your perfect solution, try them anyway.

Takes a little getting used to but saves the finger nails. I like them and i've ordered all three sizes and even the extra large seem a bit tight. Overall i give them an "A"
          I will order more.

These picks need fingernails long enough to go over the pick.(3/16"at least). If I had long enough fingernails, I wouldn't need these picks.

I found these fairly easy to "set up" (clip to size). However, I could not get them to stay reliably on my fingers. Perhaps, with ultra-long nails, or with glue, you could do that. They do sound much more natural than National metal picks.

Comments about Alaska Pik Finger Guitar Pick:

I thought I would try these for playing banjo, but really did not like the product. Proper use involves customizing each pick for a specific finger so it reproduces the effect of a natural fingernail. They need to be trimmed and filed, then marked for the corresponding finger. I found them to be too flimsy for my tastes, a poor fit, and kind of uncomfortable. They always seemed to be ready to fall off my finger because they sit right at the tip of the nail bed. I found I don't have the patience to deal with these picks, and never found them comfortable. I found a traditional metal finger pick much easier to use, but I needed to give these a try. The concept is innovative and might be right for someone who doesn't mind going through the process of customizing them, but for me it just seemed like a hassle.

I bought a selection of sizes as a substitute for nails playing classical guitar. They are functional but not ideal.
The material is a bit thick and soft compared to nails and the medium seems under sized compared to the measuring guide. The other sizes were better but using multiple together, they felt cumbersome.
