The B-Band A2.2 with XOM is the future of acoustic guitar sound reproduction design. This dual input/mono output onboard preamp is set up for use with the acclaimed combination of UST and AST transducers. These, along with the convenient onboard remote XOM mix and volume controls--which mount just inside the edge of the soundhole without modification--bring the best of both transducers' characteristics together, resulting in a sound that is true to the guitar's unique voice.

The entire A2.2 systems installs quickly and easily, only requiring two holes to be drilled--one under the saddle for the UST and one for the endpin output jack/strap button. For fast connection all components are plug-in--no soldering.

The preamp mounts inside the guitar at the back and has input gain trims for both transducers that are adjustable with a screwdriver. The preamp is housed in lightweight all-metal box and is powered by a 9-volt battery. All mounting hardware, including a high quality endpin jack and hold-tight battery clip, are included.

XOM--Cross Over Mix

The B-Band research and development team has applied a crossover system to the exclusive patented pickup material. The Cross Over Mix (XOM) system combines the best aspects of each pickup into one complete source. By sensing the guitar from two separate locations and combining, what each pickup does best, the XOM system has a very complex and rich sound that further augments already superior sounding Emfit film pickups.

The ideal process for authentic acoustic reproduction comes from combining the high frequencies of the AST and low frequencies of the UST, making a sound that is much more complete, true and pure. In addition, the XOM pan pot allows the player to select between full UST/AST XOM mix and the UST alone or one of the many points in between resulting in almost unlimited possibilities.

You will find XOM to be an amazingly flexible sound manager resulting in an elegant transparent tone at any performance level.

Comments about B-Band A2.2 XOM Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

AST pick up went out 14 months after it was installed. UST pick up still works fine and sounds great. This guitar had only been played four times for about an hour each time over the 14 month time the pick ups had been installed. It hung from String Swing guitar hangers with six other guitars in a humidity and temperature controlled room goverened by a hygrometer for all that time . B Band said the units were only guarenteed for one year and I would have to buy a replacement.

If you only want a unit to work for 13 or 14 months, get a B Band. If you want something to last longer, buy another brand.

      Holy Grail of Acoustic Pickups

Comments about B-Band A2.2 XOM Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

These pickups reproduce the sound of an acoustic guitar wonderfully. I have several guitars with the B-Band system installed and find them consistently manufactured and innovative. Typical under saddle piezo pickups cannot compare to B-Band's technology and sound quality. Highly recommended.

Comments about B-Band A2.2 XOM Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

This is my third B-Band system since buying my first in 2000. I started out with a UST and goose neck sound hole mic with separate raven labs preamp blender. I was very happy with the sound, especially compared to the other competitors. After 6 years of use I upgraded the UST to another B-Band 4th generation improvement. My first UST was a bit noisy at high output. My second replacement fixed this issue. Around 2014 I started to have issues with using the B-Band system with the separate Raven Labs Blender Preamp. The Ravens Lab took (2) 9 Volt batteries while the B-Band takes (1) 9 Volt. (3) 9 volt batteries...Ouch. I always wished to have a blender onboard the guitar to control. I had to use a stereo cable to split the two signals (UST-Mic) and send it to the Raven Labs to control. The good thing about doing this was I could control separate eq on both UST and Mic, but found myself turning the mic down and in some situations off because of boxy howling feedback. After a few different tests I concluded something was wrong with my B-Band system. I guess now it was time to replace the system again. I checked around and tried and heard several systems, I even own a Taylor Expression System thats in a Limited Edition 714CE to compare. I was targeting LR -Baggs because of the respectable players using their systems. I will say the Taylor Expression System is the leader compared to LR Baggs-Fishman. I think LR Baggs and Fishman make great products, but I've owned a Fishman system and wasn't impressed. The Expression System sounds so much better.

Ok...May of 2015 I took the plunge on the B-Band A2.2 XOM System. Why? Because the price was very realistic and I have always liked the B-Band sound. I always wanted to replace the mic with an AST sensor too. And finally having a volume and blender on the guitar with a mono cable and doing away with the Raven Labs battery sucker and stereo cable. Hallelujah! Now comes the sound test...After installing the system which is pretty simple I plugged my new mono Monster Cable Acoustic 1/4" Angled to Straight Instrument Cable 12 Foot into my apogee-Logic X and hit a chord. My eyes grew wide with my jaw dropping with saliva. I then took a journey for an hr. Oh...I forgot to mention that I put the B-Band in a Martin SPOM Special Edition OOO. Continuing on I then plugged in my Limited Edition Taylor Expression System and it too sounded pretty good in comparison. Different! I noticed the Taylor was a bit noisier compared to the B-Band.

In conclusion I don't like to write reviews because they take time and I think a lot of reviews are useless. I would say 20% of reviews these days have some positive direction for seekers of useful information. For all I know my review could fit in the 80% group though. I just wanted to thank the B-Band company for a great product and share my excitement with others like me who are trying to find a great product at an affordable price. Now I can get to work again and enjoy making music instead of being annoyed or irritated with my plugged in acoustic sound. With a savings promotion I purchased a two year extended warranty for that extra protection. I typically don't buy warranties, but with the promo I rationalized the overall sum and said what the heck.

Combine the B-Band A2.2 XOM Acoustic Guitar Preamp with a great condenser mic and expected to be amazed! Awesome experience...

Comments about B-Band A2.2 XOM Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

Being a Luthier for three decades I have found the right acoustic system. B-Band had hit the mark when they decided to put their technology into the instrument field. This system, unlike others, amplifies and refines the sound of the guitar. Other systems have a hard time doing this. I wouldn't use anything else in my guitars.

        Finally Married a Guitar

Comments about B-Band A2.2 XOM Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

Install a B-Band A2.2 XOM in an Epiphone Masterbuilt EF-500RA Vintage or similar.I have put B-Band in 5 guitars. It started with a cheap Johnson Dreadnought to learn how and it sounded so good I donated it to a Church. Then I put it in a small bodied Fender and it made the guitar sound like an absolute monster but -of course- unplugged a low end Fender-what can I say - one of the easiest guitars to play ever but not to marry. Then I put one in a Taylor Big Baby and it is the most wonderful playing guitar but no stage presence. I put one in an old Gibson and so-so. I would not touch my Martin HD-28 but after the A2.2 in my Epi - may be some day.I looked at many options but went back to B-Band with its XOM upgrade and newly encapsulated electret fims. The Epi MB EF-500RA plays easier and encourages more licks than any of my guitars and has more overall resonance but not enough low end to match an HD28 or Gibson J200.But with this A2.2 XOM it beats anything I have played in any guitar store. You ask the low end to back off and the finger picking is extraordinary. . . and believe me I have played plenty of Martins, Taylors, Larrivee's, Breedloves, Gibsons old and new - name it.I thought about marrying the Epi RA500 just for its uniqueness and great resonance as it sets up beautiful - just not able to plug in until tonight. I just went through the 2 rooms and tuned down the L4, LG1, HD28, Taylor to relieve the necks and put the A2.2 / Epi beside my bed. AIN'T CONFUSIN LICKS ON OTHER SCALES AND NECKS NO MO. I just married her but not before the A2.2 XOM.need anyone say more. I play through the Fender Jr. Acoustic and this baby sounds like 3 guitars at once with somethin rare goin on.
