OVERVIEW

Reduces hum, increases tonal range, and adds growl.

The Bartolini 9J1 4-String Jazz Bass Pickup Set features a hum-canceling dual in-line coil design. The 9J1 has a bright Neck tone and deep Bridge tone. The #1 windings yield much more "growl" from the Bridge pickup. They are very similar in tone to Bartolini's 94J 4 string pickups, just ever so slightly brighter at the bridge.

FEATURES
  • Black shell

Comments about Bartolini 9J1 Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

As a luthier, I have used, installed and tested lots of different brands of pickups. Bartolini 9J1 set is excellent pickup set, very even response from string to string. Many other pickup brands have G string louder than the other,or one of the strings quieter than the other, but Bartolini doesn't have that problem. They use steel rails with split coil design, instead of single pole pieces. The rails are responsible for that even sound. You can get them very close to the strings without disturbing the intonation. 9J1 is a hum canceling ,dead quiet set, but being a humbucker piskups, they are very natural sounding pickups. They are little hotter than most stock bass pickups and in my opinion they do not need pre amp boost. Bartolini says that 9J1 work just fine as a passive set, with regular 250 K pots. The neck pickup measures 5.73 K, and the bridge pickup is at 6,73 K. They are little more expensive but well worth of every penny! I only wish that they made it as a four conductor wire, it would be more sound choices, but all in all, it is excellent pickup set. Bartolini's customer service/tech response was top notch too.

Comments about Bartolini 9J1 Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

These hum canceling pickups are an excellent solution to the annoying hum that is characteristic of standard issue Fender Jazz bass single coil pickups. These pickups sound incredible, with excellent definition and growl, ideal for funk, jazz, and classic rock, and with no hum.

Comments about Bartolini 9J1 Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

Two years ago I bought an early 90's MIM Jazz bass as a back up. I loved the tone originally and it was an awesome buy. In the past couple months it has become VERY noisy. To the point that I stopped performing with it. I remembered the Bartolini 9j1's from some Modulus basses I had played in the past and decided to buy them to save my jazz bass. I am EXTREMELY pleased with the tone! So smooth and punchy. NOT noisy. If your jazz bass is making noise or you are looking for a great upgrade, I highly recommend these.

These pickups deliver exactly what I purchased them for...better overall tone and plenty bottom-end.

              Not a big deal

              By Derwin Grimm

Comments about Bartolini 9J1 Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

The buying experience was great: good communication, secure payment, rapid delivery. The installation as easy and only took a few minutes, though it would've been nice to have an explanation of which pickup went in which slot - the documentation with the pickups had no obvious notation on which went where. They were marked "S1" and "L1." Finally found a note on Bartolini's site saying "neck (Short) and bridge (Long)," so I guessed S was short and L was long. Seems to work well. They gave my fretless Jazz a more-obvious "mwah" voice than it had with the stock-branded Seymore Duncan pickups. Bartolini's cost more than other replacemements, and the money seems well spent. Glad I got them, and am now considering adding active electronics.

Comments about Bartolini 9J1 Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

I put these in my Mexican J Bass, and the difference is night and day. I am a guitarist by trade, but do a lot of pickup gigs on bass, and this was my back up bass, but it has moved to headline status. Any tone that you could want to get out of a Fender Jazz bass is possible with these pups. The only problem I had was that there were no screws provided, and the ones on the stock pups were too small. Not a big deal, but worth mentioning.

great product! easy to install, not extremely "hotter" than my stock duncan's but much more distinct tonal changes. Very happy with these in my 77' mod jazz bass

Comments about Bartolini 9J1 Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

These pup's are awesome. I have about a dozen basses and I wanted to try something different from the standard Fender, Fender Mod Shop, Seymour Duncan, EMG's and Dimarzio's in my other basses. This combination is quite, smooth, fat, bright and punchy. Can't go wrong with these!

Comments about Bartolini 9J1 Jazz Bass Pickup Set:

I bought these to replace the elderly Reflex Red active set-up in my 1984 Tokai Jazz Bass replica. The purchase process was smooth and delivery was within the stated time frame. Fitting the pickups was simple, and having gigged with the bass since the changeover I can thoroughly recommend them...the sound is smooth, with plenty of heft and punch.
