i've had these pups in three different p-bases now, a 1980's pawnshop p-bass copy, a 2005 highway one, and a 2000 american p. all of them sound better without losing the character of the instrument itself. more output (dial back the volume to keep your SVT clean). fat-but-still-round tone that cuts and punches at the same time. totally reasonable price. none of the battery-related hassle of active pickups.if you've ever wondered why your bass doesn't sound like the ones you hear on your records, it's because you don't have these pickups and guys like steve harris, scott shifflett and jay bentley do.no laser beams or anything.there's a reason everybody owns a bass with these in it. good magnets, consistent winding, quality workmanship. decent gauge leads although nothing to write home about. but the instructions deserve 5 stars alone.there is certainly nothing better for the same amount of money or less; that deserves five stars as far as i'm concerned.

I replaced the pick-ups on a Westone Raider. The original pick-ups failed. They sound great.

Comments about Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound P Bass Pickups:

Used these to replace EMG selects in my Washburn. The EMG I thought would be good, but they were muddy, the 1/4 pounders gave me punch & clarity w/ much less noise. Seymour Duncan's rock. If you want to go passive, you cant beat SD.

Comments about Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound P Bass Pickups:

I bought these for my Fender MIM P-Bass. Lovely instrument, but I felt that Fender cut corners with the stock pickups, and they sounded particularly muddy with my alder body and rosewood fretboard. Installation was a breeze, and I can say I've never been more satisfied with a guitar pickup in my life. These QPs are possibly the most balanced and versatile pickups I've had the pleasure of playing. Some think that these are "high output" pickups, but that wasn't my experience at all (try the Seymour Duncan Hot pickups for P-Bass if you want that ballsy, roaring midrange). You can roll off the volume a tick or two and the QPs sound delightfully vintage - open, with a warm midrange growl. Bass was tight and full, not boomy or overpowering. Treble tone was articulate without sounding harsh. I used to have to mangle my amp controls to get good tone...now I can get an amazing variety of tones from my P-Bass (jazz, funk, classic/hard rock) just by manipulating the volume and tone on my axe. It's transformed my bass into an amazing machine, and it's an absolute joy to play now.

Comments about Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound P Bass Pickups:

For anyone trying to decide between these and the 62 fender reissues, I too had difficulty. I have 1 P Bass with the Fender 62 reissues which are nice for the vintage sound, and now 1 with these quarter pounders, which you can also get the vintage sound with by dialing back the volume, and I love the extra kick with these. I used a .1uf 200v K40Y-9 VINTAGE Paper in Oil Russian Capacitor on my tone pot and am very happy. My only complaint, and it's minimal, is that I had to use extra padding under these so they would set right in my pickguard. My personal opinion is that if you want the vintage tone and want versatilty, get these!

Comments about Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound P Bass Pickups:

I put these pickups into a cheapo sx ursa that I completely gutted as the stock electronics are garbage. The first set I got were D.O.A. and did not work at all.M.F. was great about it and sent me out a new set strait away. This time everything was A-OK and I plugged in the bass to try them out.You will not believe the sound that comes from these quarter pound pickups.Powerful cutting low and midrange that will cut through any mix and keep up with ANY drummer. These pups are the answer to anyone who thinks that they need a "bit more" because the rock band that they're in is really loud and they feel they're getting "drowned out".Trust me that will no longer be an issue. These truly are "rock and roll" pickups, and the ONLY downside I could see is if you wanted a more classic bass tone for softer styles and/or "pop" music. You would have to roll down your volume and work with your EQ to achieve that "old 60's p-bass" tone. But for rock, punk, and heavy metal these pickups sound absolutely amazing.

Comments about Basslines SPB-3 Quarter Pound P Bass Pickups:

These pickups are perfect! Great modern rock tone and clarity. Really picks up the punch and dynamics of the strings. The only negative is that they are a hair larger than the stock pickups which makes the pickguard very difficult to fit back on over it. And once you do get it back on, it makes adjusting the pickups via mounting screws more difficult as well. But overall, I recommend these to anyone with a P-Bass.

I love these pups. I have put them in most of my basses.Quality and price are the best, but lets talk about tone, since that is subjective. For a mellow, pleasing bassey type of smooth, with no distortion overtones (or phase type wah effect like some of the foreign made pups) then these are what you would be looking for.Simple old fashion tone, but modernly made.
