A nice boost for any amp. Plays quite loud with very little power. The more you push them the better they sound. They want to be driven hard and dirty. I recomend a 50-100 watt amp that gives up right before its to much power for the woofer and you'll get that squonky, purry, edge that just sounds so mean! My late 80s Crate G212 with two of these (16ohms each) at 8 Ohms just tears your head off! My crate with 2 of these 12"s are noticably louder and crisper than My friends Marshall Half Stack and cuts through more with firmer low end. Clean or distortion channels, my Yamaha AES620, Crybaby wah, DD3, and Volume pedal get me just about every sound I care to make with a guitar. Expensive but worth it for making sure you get the sound your after. Its a shame that these woofers should be so expensive when the typical woofer would have a cast frame and many many other tech advances these dont have. Not to say these aren't well made because they are very sturdy indeed. I guess you stick with the old tech to get the "classic" sound to bad we cant get 70s pricing to go with the technology!
Comments about Celestion G12-80 Classic Lead 12" Speaker:
These things are great. I have them in a Marshall MG412 and they sound awesome even in a cheaper cabinet. They are nice and warm but can still kick out squeals like none other. Kind of hard to get them to break up due to the high power handling. Only reason i gave them a 3 on value is they get expensive when you have to buy 4.

WOW! What a difference in sound compared to my old speaker! I have a Peavey Bandit 112 w/ 12" Scorpion speaker. I bought about 14 years ago. That speaker sounded ok, even up until now. But I grew bored of the sound, and I wanted something that would give me more clarity and feel of the guitar playing. I looked into the Celestions, since I heard that Dimebag Darrell, Slash, Kurt Cobain and Zakk Wylde used them at most of their careers. It was pretty much a guess on which exact Celestion speaker to buy. I went with this one due to the fact that it's made for 1x12 or 2x12 cabs. Also noted that it has good highs for shredding and solos. And it does! This speaker really woke up my amp! The Zakk Wylde or Dimebag like riffs sound crunchy and chunky, almost like as if I upgraded my humbuckers! Not only does it sound more quality it actually sounds louder at any volume. But I only went up to like 3 since it needs to break in. I would recommend this speaker to anyone that wants to upgrade their old cabs! I use an Epiphone Les Paul all stock running through a clean channel on high gain and use Boss MetalZone MT-2 and Dunlop Crybaby Wah pedals.

I have one of these in my Bogner Shiva 1x12 combo...it's very clear and articulate. Lots of power and tight low end. I was told that it's basically like the vintage 30, but with 20 watts more power rating. I don't know if that's true, but I do know that this speaker delivers. Oh and I've had the amp about 2-3 years so I'm not judging by a 15 minute store demo. Hope this helps you. ;)
