All the benefits of a neodymium magnet combined with '60s and '70s guitar tone.

The incredible magnetic properties of Neo mean that only a small amount is needed to produce the same flux as a much larger ceramic magnet structure. What's more, the magnet of the G12 Century Vintage is a 'pot' type which actually sits inside the voice coil (unlike the 'ring' magnet of the G12 Century which surrounds the voice coil). The resulting weight of the G12 Century Vintage is just 3.65 lbs. (1.66kg).

The Neo characteristics of fast attack, responsiveness and articulation are very much in evidence. However, this specific magnet configuration, combined with a carefully selected cone material and edge treatment, gifts the G12 Century Vintage with a classic rock sound for the new millennium.

Comments about Celestion G12 Century Vintage 60W, 12" Neodymium Guitar Speaker:

I have used the extremely heavy EVM12Ls since the 80s. I needed to reduce weight and decided to make the leap. I am very happy with the change. The Century's have a typical Celestion rock attack, but they do seem smoother in the mids than its V30 counterpart. They are about 3db less efficient than the EVs which I actually like because I can push the power section on my Hiwatt a bit more. I can't say they have the bass of the EV or the pristine cleans, but there is articulation and breath that gets me in the ballpark. The best part is my cabinet weight went from 74lbs to 48lbs.

Comments about Celestion G12 Century Vintage 60W, 12" Neodymium Guitar Speaker:

I was a little hesitant buying these speakers because they don't use conventional magnets (I liked that they are light but was worried about sound) but I have to say I was very impressed. These speakers sound amazing. I put them into a 4x12 cabinet they sound great running either my Mesa Mark IV or Marshall JVM heads.

I play a variety of music: rock, blues, metal, punk and these speaker can do it all. Great low end with beautiful highs, I don't know how they do it.

I've got a 2x12 cabinet as well with V30s and I'll pick these over the V30s any day.

        Awesome Speaker!

Comments about Celestion G12 Century Vintage 60W, 12" Neodymium Guitar Speaker:

I originally bought this speaker based on what I had heard about the tone. I did not know what neodynium meant. I put this is a 2x12 cab I gutted Crate speakers out of, and it sounded great. Loved it. Later, I bought a Traynor combo with a v30 in it. It sounded wonderful, but I wanted to trade it for the neodynium speaker. That would keep my 2x12 cab from being lopsided and lighten the load on what would be my gigging amp.

Boy was that ever effective. The main difference in sound I noticed with the Century in there instead of the v30 was a kind of papery sound at low volume. If you even turn the thing up to 2, you find this papery sound translates into a nice open full crunch and punchy articulate cleans. It's really a perfect match for the amp. The whole thing is lighter, which is well worth it for gigging. It sounds better than the stock v30! It brings out some of the punchier qualities of this amp. The heavy magnet v30 is a lot smoother, so YMMV. For me, I love clean and articulate, and it goes especially well with this amp.

So yeah consider this for the weight, but look at it as a v30 sound except more definined and less smooth. Overall, great speaker. Would highly recommend unless you cannot live without the smoothness of a heavy magnet.
This arrived in perfect condition, and has stayed in perfect condition despite my usual half-brained fumblings.
Let's face it. This is a pretty pricey speaker. Eminence has good speakers for the price. Better value. Still, this is a fair price to ask for a quality speaker.

        Metal / 4x12 Review

        By Michael-7D1it

Comments about Celestion G12 Century Vintage 60W, 12" Neodymium Guitar Speaker:

Overall I'm so happy with it. I can carry this 4x12 single handed and it sounds amazing! Anyone want to buy my mesa cab? You have to carry it out yourself though.
I guess it only have 2 features. It's really light and it sounds fantastic. I usually prefer Vintage 30's but those were too heavy in my mesa traditional 4x12 cab. I injured by back for 8 months carrying that thing into my house. I bought a really light Jety City 4x12 and put 4 of these Century Vintages in and I'm super pleased. They took a little while to break in and I now run the cab at 16 ohms and it sounds amazing! Lightest 4x12 I've ever seen and the sound is perfect. I run my Engl Blackmore head through it.
Excellent Quality. Sounds great hopefully it's as durable as all the other celestions I've owned. Who would have thought that my quest for tone would end with these speakers. No more back injuries for me! (The drummer and other guitarist can carry their own gear)

These speakers mike up and record really well. I mostly play metal... black and death so the high gain tone is awesome. They DO break up a little and saturate at medium and medium high volumes. Of course the louder the more breakup. It is a very nice and usable breakup, I can drop my gain a notch at decent levels the speaker saturation makes up for it. Compare this to vintage 30's that barely breakup at all, and when they do I don't personally think it's all that musical or useable. The clean tone is great. Can get a good clean volume out of them, oddly the saturation isn't as noticeable on clean so that's an added bonus for me.
These are very pricey, I happened to find mine online for a VERY good price. I went back later and they raised their prices. Guess it was meant to be I really only needed 4 of them anyhow. You could factor in the savings of not having to pay a copay from the back injuries. I had a new girlfriend at the time, and hobbling around like an old man was not a great impression.

Took a chance, glad I did!

Comments about Celestion G12 Century Vintage 60W, 12" Neodymium Guitar Speaker:

My goal was mainly to cut down the weight of my amp without sacrificing tone too much. These things are so light that it takes over 10 pounds off of my Pro Reverb (2X12" 50W combo amp) and makes it so much easier to lug around. Turns out these things sound great, even a bit better than the stock speakers. I have used them live and in the studio and they always make me notice how nice my tone is! I play tele's, strats, 335, 339 and Paul's and after adjusting the amp for each guitar these speakers make each one sound amazing. But boy, do you have to pay for the savings in weight. For me, totally worth it!

        Ultra lite V30 +

Comments about Celestion G12 Century Vintage 60W, 12" Neodymium Guitar Speaker:

Replaced the V30 in my new SuperSonic with one of these and just love it. It is better balanced than the stock V30 with tight bass, smooth highs and super quick response. Crunches and sings like all good Celestions and tone for days.

        light, loud, and crisp

Comments about Celestion G12 Century Vintage 60W, 12" Neodymium Guitar Speaker:

i've had this little gem in two combo amps, a peavey valveking, and most recently an epiphone valve standard. the clarity is outstanding in both amps. this speaker cleared up the mud of the peavey, and in the epi, i can crank the little 15 watter and cut through a whole group. doesn't break up too badly when played clean at high volumes, but can really crunch when called upon. keeps up with my genz-benz g-glex 212 cab! a definate rock solid speaker with great tone and a really nice price.

        Century Vintage wasn't for me

        By Triguy

        from Janesville, WI

Comments about Celestion G12 Century Vintage 60W, 12" Neodymium Guitar Speaker:

I put this speaker in a 112 tube combo because my original speaker was so heavy. The light weight of Century Vintage is awesome! I just thought the sound was too smooth. The pure sound of your amp comes through with no coloring at all. That could be good or bad, depending on what you're looking for. I went to an Eminence Texas Heat instead which gave me more chunkiness, but I do miss the Century's light weight. It seemed like a good quality speaker, just not the sound I was looking for.
