I installed 4 of these 16 ohms Rockets in a bottom B cab thats I completely re-done over, new wire, casters, Marshall speaker plate that's wired to switch to 16 mono or 8 & 4 sterio ohms.I bought these without ever hearing them but I did read reviews before buying them. These speakers were apparently suppose to be a better mid ranging sound speaker according to sound skamatic diagrams done on them. After installing them I decide to install a 4" layer of fiberglass on the back pannel of the cabinet to help with lower frequency responce...This works really well and actually made the speakers sound much deeper than the A cab I have sitting on top of it, which is an actual 1960 Lead cab loaded with g12T-75.I'm not entirely impressed with these speakers in the sence that they lack top end crisp sound I was hoping to get but I think it's because of the head I am using, Soldano Hot Rod 50 plus. For the price these are a great choice and will do mids very well but if your looking for a crispier sound they aren't the ones...

This speaker is ok. With the right amp and cab Im sure it sounds nice, but it is a bit harsh. This sounds nothing like a vintage 30 if thats the sound your going for. Overall, harsh highs, tight but quiet lows, buzzy mids. Still a quality speaker, not the right sound for me.

Helped Bring My Amp To Life

        By Fender2011

        from Northeast Ohio

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 12" Guitar Speaker:

I have a Crate V18-12 that was a very dark and lifeless sounding amp. I did two things to it recently that made it a much better sounding amp. I put a Groove Tube 12AU7 in the phase inverter slot and replace the stock speaker with the Celstion Rocket 50. I replaced the speaker first and I'll give the speaker about 25% of the credit and this tube the other 75% for making my amp sound 100% better.

The speaker and tube change improved everything - brightened it, added more clean headroom, added definition and harmonics and improved the sound when using my Bad Monkey distortion pedal.

        Wow

        By J Paul

        from Denver, CO

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 12" Guitar Speaker:

My review title is lame, but "wow" is all I can say every time I plug into this speaker. I have a Crate V series tube amp purchased on clearance. In trying to get inspiration from that amp I've tried numerous speakers (all of which look more impressive than this Rocket, and cost more). But all to no avail. I'd lost hope in my clearance amp, but MF had a screaming sale on these Rockets and since they're Celestions I had to at least try one.Wow! My amp was just waiting for me to put this speaker in it. I can't believe the change. It now has a clean sound that rivals my Fender Tweed. The overdrive channel sings and I even have pick dynamics!THANK YOU Musician's Friend!

        These Speakers Are

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 12" Guitar Speaker:

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! I highly recommend these to ANYONE!! I have a 4x12 cab with these in it, and I've played everything from blues to thrash with it, and they sound Killer!! Produce Excellent highs, Awesome mids, and Heart-Stopping Lows!! I have a 6505 sitting atop my cab, and the bottom-end will literally shake the house during practice. I have been using the same cab, with the same speakers, playing on average 8 hours a week, for 5 years! Never encountered a problem. The only comment I'm going to make, is I recommend using a High-End Cable to patch your head into your cab. I feel that a lot of bad reviews could have been avoided if the user had spent a few extra bucks for a decent cable. A cheap cable can make even the world's greatest speaker, or amp sound bad!!

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 12" Guitar Speaker:

I built a custum 1x12 for my brothers Valve junior amp, and I needed a cheap speaker. Tried this one out and loved it. Very loud, I ran my Peavy 100watt head through and had no trouble. I'm buying two more for a 2x12 to stick under my peavey. Very nice!

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 12" Guitar Speaker:

Bought two of these for my custom 2x12 cabinet. Using my Marshall Lead head sounds excellent. The stock Marshall gain set all the way up gave a great tone. Very much like a very overdriven Greenback. I truly believe these speakers are the best of all worlds. Great for blues to metal!!

        Not A Bad Speaker

        By Worker Bee

        from Northern Virginia

Comments about Celestion Rocket 50 12" Guitar Speaker:

This speaker came stock with my Line 6 Spider II 30 watt combo. Both the amp and speaker are of Chinese manufacture; I hadn't really considered this when I purchased the amp but thankfully so far I've had no issues or misgivings. As far as the speaker is concerned, it seems more than adequate for the job -- the Spider II 30 is quite a loud little beast, and the Rocket 50 takes everything it has to throw at it. I'm surprised at the amount of low end that the speaker is capable of generating, but the highs tend to grate a bit and the mid frequencies could be a bit more pronounced. The sensitivity of the Rocket 50 is only about 95.5 dB...not loud, but also not as anemic as some Jensen models out there. For what you pay, this speaker seems a good value.
