I have owned these in a 4x12 closed back crate angled cab for almost 5 years! These are great sounding speakers period! Sure some will like and some will hate but that is a personal issue. All I know is my sound is AWESOME coming out of the box using numerous amps! Mostly I play tube amps but have a Tech 21 and a Crate S.S. which also sounds great through the cab! So IMHO I like these a lot! They fit my style of classic rock, blues, metal, even country twang comes out of the box! So what is the problem people? I am going to get some Governors and try them in the cab or build my own. But I am asking this.........WHY?

I picked up a Marshall 4x12 used and opened it up, expecting to find 12/70's but found these instead. With a great Marshall head *I use a Jub and an early 800* they are flabby and undefined. The highs pierce until the the speakers 'flab out' from too much work. I'm sure these have a use somewhere, and the price is around where a V30 or something SHOULD be, but in today's economy you never know what you'll get for any price. In a good real wood cab with a great 100 watt Marshall, they fall very flat. Spend a couple bucks more and get a good speaker, or look a Jensen. Being replaced tomorrow.

I've got 2 of these in my Blackstar HT-60 Stage combo (open back). At first they were very fizzy to my ears. I really couldn't get them to sound how I wanted. After probably a goo 40+ hours of high volume playing they've sweetened up a bit and the fizz is gone. I'm in a cover band that does everything from The Beatles to Cee Lo to Iron Maiden and these speakers handle what I throw at them pretty well. I seem to get an incredibly dark tone with them, but I'm starting to wonder if I just got an extremely dark piece of mahogany in my guitar. Whatever the case, they can handle plenty of low end at high volumes. These speakers are definitely and upgrade for most low-medium range amps and cabs. If you've got the money you might consider something a bit on the higher end side. I am considering swapping one for a WGS Veteran 30, but I might keep the other seventy 80 to have to contrast in speakers.

The seventy 80's gets the job done and have a nice voice of their own. Came stock in my Randall RT50C. It is toneful, responsive, and matches well with my fifty watt all tube amp. I would call this speaker well rounded and capable of covering many genre. I like it best for articulate crunch tones.

These work best in a closed back 2x12 cab. Where the lack of bass is helped by the bassy sound of a closed back cab design. I compared these to my Greenback 25 watt, Classic Lead 80 watt, Eminence Wizard 75 watt, Eminence Governor 75 watt. If you need a 80 watt range speaker then go for the much smoother thicker sounding Governor. If you want to spend more money get the Classic 80. The Seventy 80 is a bright sounding speaker with high mids and very thin sound with little bass response. These are average speakers that come stock in just about every mid priced cab. I would upgrade with something different.

I have a pair that came stock with a crate rfx 200s and the sound really good when put into application with the right style/sound your going for I think for blues, classic rock, jazz, and ambient or indie stuff...but metal they kinda crap out in my opinion... there are some volume drops with certain frequncies also wich can be annoying but that's mainly with heavy over drive.

Have these in a 4x12 cab, closed back. use them for rock and metal through an all tube amp. These speakers have a nice smooth breakup, not too early, and sound great for lead playing as well. They are a good all around speaker, kind of in between a vintage 30 and a g12t 75. Great buy for the money, and will also work famously mixed w/ two other speakers in a 4x12 cab, which is an optional set up that is growing in popularity more and more.

I needed to replace the driver in my Princeton 650 so after extensive research I found that G12P-80 was the same driver as the Seventy 80.Checking out the specs on other drivers, and knowing Fender also uses Eminence speakers in some of their amps, I did a comparison. What I found was that the Eminence Patriot "Texas Heat" had better freq response than the G12P-80 (Seventy 80), twice the wattage capability (150 watts), and was less expensive. Being a gambling kinda guy (and one who seeks out bargains) I opted for the Eminence "Texas Heat". After about five minutes of noodling around with the newly installed driver, I realized this speaker was totally awesome. Better bottom end & less shrill top end. The crunch is fantastic. I say for a better sound pass on the Celestion.

This is known as an "economy" speaker, but it's a GOOD economy speaker. I paired it with a Guytron BigTone, and it does a beutiful job of complementing it, giving a fuller sound with a lot more "presence." I haven't had it long enough to really push it hard, but so far, it's sounding GOOD!
