The V-30, love it or hate it - and I have done both. I won't get into Chinese v. UK, except to say I will buy a speaker made anywhere as long as it sounds good to me. When I first tried out the V-30s I did not like them - the infamous bright/harsh/thin effect. I took them out of my amps and put them away - for years. Finally it was clean out time; they had to go. I decided to give one more shot a breaking them in using a sound wave CD that I burned specifically for breaking in speakers - and yes, insert all kinds of disclaimers here now. Nevertheless, after a very lengthy break-in the speakers changed rather drastically. They are sweet, full bodied and articulate, handling either cleans or distortion with perfect composure. They literally went from useless to favorite - all on the basis of break-in. I have tons of speakers and have never seen the need - or results - of the break-in process so pronounced in any speaker. V-30s are among the best, but you will never hear it unless you break them in very thoroughly.

The Best Guitar Speaker Ever Made.

By Eric

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I recently purchased a Peavey 6505+ 112 combo which has the WORST speaker in any amp ever. You could get a decent tone with major tweaking but it was a chore.
I gave up on that speaker rather easily and bought this to replace it.
So glad I did. The 6505+ came alive with this speaker. It didn't take too long to break it in. I jammed on it for about 3 days before it really warmed up.
If you are thinking about replacing a speaker ESPECIALLY in a 6505+ combo, this is the one to get.

I´m really disappointed with this speaker. I bought it here and it was damaged and the worst of all is that MusiciansFriend doesn´t accept a return (I´m clear with politics and stuff) but I´ve been a loyal costumer (I´m from El Salvador, Central America) and I won´t buy again here. Customer service in chat didn´t solve anything just arguing I´m outside of the U.S.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Replaced two of the four G12T-75's in an old 1960A cab. Put them in an X pattern which made a significant improvement in sound by bringing out the mid-range that the G12T-75's lack. Making the over all sound more rounded. Time will tell as far as longevity goes. Do take the time to break them in. Just like all speakers they improve as they break-in. Yes, they are made in China but they still sound good to my ear. Some say the old V30's made in England have a better tone. I cannot say one is better than the other they are just slightly different. I feel like the high are more pronounced with the Chinese version but they are not full broken in so this may change over time.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I usually play through a 1x12 Combo amp. My "A" rig is a Mesa 5:50 which is loaded with the V30 and depending on the venue, set it atop a Marshall 2x12 cab loaded with (1x)Celestion Vintage 30 and (1x) Celestion G12T-75. The bright crisp texture of the V30 against the deeper color G12T really gives a nice balance. My "B" rig is a Peavey Classic 30 loaded with a V30 and depending on the venue, set atop 1 1x12 cab loaded with a Celestion G12T-75. This setup lets me play anything from Country to Heavey Metal. What is really nice about the Vintage 30 is that it is an affordable quality speaker that can be a great foundation to build your sound on. It cuts through a live band very well and the more time you play on them, they seem to soften up a little bit making them sound even better. With any peice of music equipment, beauty is in the ear of the beholder. For my ear, the Celestion Vintage 30 has been a stable mate for long time because of the sound I'm able to produce from it.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I'm not a big speaker enthusiast, and this speaker was my first foray into the aftermarket upgrade world. I installed it into a Blackstar HT20, which had a Celestion Rocket 50 originally. This speaker greatly improved the clarity of the sound, though added a grainy, brittle quality. Still, a huge improvement overall - especially when using humbuckers.

While it was not ideal for the HT20, I have one installed in a Bogner amp, and it sounds fantastic for most applications.

My main complaint is that the highs can be harsh, and the bass response is sometimes insufficient, especially with power chords and distortion. Also, it's much heavier than other speakers (not a big deal).

Seems to be a great speaker for lead sounds, not so much for rhythm.

Ahhh yes the V-30:) Ive heard them all and this is forever my favorite. If the midrange spike is not to your liking change the settings on your amp or guitar! This speaker can be dangerous when an un experienced artist isn't weary of the amount of presence and midrange as it can really pummel the listeners ears...The benefit is the clarity and the insane amount of harmonic overtones. The low end is unbeatable, warm and tight, and loud!!!. At one point when my ear had developed I wanted my tone to be warmer and more pleasing so I tried the greenbacks. But the low end wasnt tight enough for me...now Im rocking my cabs with greenback/v-30 in a x pattern. Its the best of both worlds. But if I had to choose one over the other the Vintage 30 always wins!

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

The Vintage 30 is a great speaker. It is ideal for the player who wants to be heard and cut through the mix. I think we have all experienced not being heard in the mix. Cranking the volume higher often just makes the tone more muddy but you're still not getting through the mix. I've experienced this with a Carvin MTS valve head with a 4x12 with G12T-75s. With the V30 you're sure to be heard without going to "11" and this speaker sounds better the more juice you give it. It handles high volume well. I have these mixed in an "X" pattern in two cabs now and like the tone in this configuration a lot.

The V30 delivers a more modern spin on the classic sound. I play blues, hard rock and classic rock and this speaker works well. I see no reason why metal players would not like it either.. Cleans are articulate, lots of headroom and good crunch when you are in hi gain mode.

As good as these speakers are for the gigging lead guitarist, they are not ideal in other applications. When practicing at home or jamming to backing tracks there are speakers that are better....have better tone. I find the V 30s can be piercing and hard to find the sweet spot. I'm not talking playing at bedroom levels, I'm talking giving it some juice. Not terrible, but certainly not the sweet spot. I'm able to tame it with the amp's eq but it still does not match the best tones my other cabs deliver. I solved this problem by mixing these In my two cabs with G12T-75s in one cab and G12H in another. Both resulted in great tones. I also mixed with Greenbacks and again, superb results.

The Vintage 30 is a great speaker that handles hi gain hi volume well and is designed to cut through the mix and get you heard when playing in a band. Because of this it can sound brittle or piercing especially if noodling on your own. That can be tamed with the eq or cured by mixing it with a speaker that will complement its strength. Good choices are G12H, G12T-75, G12-65s.
