The V-30, love it or hate it - and I have done both. I won't get into Chinese v. UK, except to say I will buy a speaker made anywhere as long as it sounds good to me. When I first tried out the V-30s I did not like them - the infamous bright/harsh/thin effect. I took them out of my amps and put them away - for years. Finally it was clean out time; they had to go. I decided to give one more shot a breaking them in using a sound wave CD that I burned specifically for breaking in speakers - and yes, insert all kinds of disclaimers here now. Nevertheless, after a very lengthy break-in the speakers changed rather drastically. They are sweet, full bodied and articulate, handling either cleans or distortion with perfect composure. They literally went from useless to favorite - all on the basis of break-in. I have tons of speakers and have never seen the need - or results - of the break-in process so pronounced in any speaker. V-30s are among the best, but you will never hear it unless you break them in very thoroughly.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

This is an update to my previous review which shows up under the "most liked positive review." I have a 16 ohm V-30 that I took out of an Orange 112 cab because I needed an 8 ohm in that cab. Here we go again: Another V-30 lying around and always wary of the "harsh" label. In my previous review I stated that I break in my speakers using a CD I recorded using generated sound wave tones - still do - did it again with this one. I still insist V-30's need a thorough (but careful) break in by whatever method you prefer. I put this one in my Fender Super Sonic 22 combo. Results??? I hope MF doesn't mind me mentioning a competitor because you can hear exactly how this rig sounds on You Tube. In 2012 Pro Guitar Shops offered a limited edition Fender SS 22 which they called a V-Custom. Andy (of PGS) did a demo of this amp which came with special black and gold tolex - and a V-30 speaker upgrade, which is what inspired me to try it in mine. My amp sounds exactly like Andy's demo - both clean and dirty - wow! Also watch Brian on MF's You Tube channel. On several PRS 24 demos he uses a Friedman Brown Eye through a Friedman 4X12 cab. Those are loaded with 2 V-30's and 2 Greenbacks. His clean and dirty tones are exemplary - perfect! Yes, the cab is miked on a Greenback but you can tell the overall tone is awesome. So, for me, the V-30/Fender Super Sonic 22 combo turned out to be one of those magical matches. Surprised again!! This time, in this amp, I got those elusive "tones to die for" and the V-30 was the key.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

What a waiste of my time and money. I must be a dummy for replacing a U.K. Made speaker with a Chinese celestion, it was not an upgrade. In Celestions defense this speaker may be defective, or at least I hope it is. After tons of research on celestion speakers based on the style of music I play, I Replaced the HH 12" standard speaker in my Laney iron heart combo with this Vintage 30. I plugged in my Gibson les Paul signature with 57's and after "breaking in the speaker as directed by the celestion website" and I heard NO improvement of any kind on my lead and rhythm channels, but worse of all my clean channel now breaks up when it used to be clean ( and is supposed to be clean at low volume) My clean channel now sounds like a perfect copy of the Lynyrd Skinard style-70's distortion. I can dial that sound in on my rhythm channel, I need my clean channel to be clean. Not what I wanted at all, total waiste of my time and money. What happen to all the improved tones peeps on here are bragging about? Must have been left in China. Will be pulling this and returning it tomorrow.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I replaced a GWS Invader speaker with this speaker in a custom built point to point boutique Anderson combo amp and what an incredibly amazing difference it has made. This speaker sounds clear, bell-like, chimey and when pushed, at once, remains tight and articulate while exhibiting a unique musicality with lots of overtones. No flubbyness. In short, this speaker has brought out the best in this high quality amp; a marriage simply meant to be.

The Best Guitar Speaker Ever Made.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I recently purchased a Peavey 6505+ 112 combo which has the WORST speaker in any amp ever. You could get a decent tone with major tweaking but it was a chore.
I gave up on that speaker rather easily and bought this to replace it.
So glad I did. The 6505+ came alive with this speaker. It didn't take too long to break it in. I jammed on it for about 3 days before it really warmed up.
If you are thinking about replacing a speaker ESPECIALLY in a 6505+ combo, this is the one to get.

I´m really disappointed with this speaker. I bought it here and it was damaged and the worst of all is that MusiciansFriend doesn´t accept a return (I´m clear with politics and stuff) but I´ve been a loyal costumer (I´m from El Salvador, Central America) and I won´t buy again here. Customer service in chat didn´t solve anything just arguing I´m outside of the U.S.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

Replaced two of the four G12T-75's in an old 1960A cab. Put them in an X pattern which made a significant improvement in sound by bringing out the mid-range that the G12T-75's lack. Making the over all sound more rounded. Time will tell as far as longevity goes. Do take the time to break them in. Just like all speakers they improve as they break-in. Yes, they are made in China but they still sound good to my ear. Some say the old V30's made in England have a better tone. I cannot say one is better than the other they are just slightly different. I feel like the high are more pronounced with the Chinese version but they are not full broken in so this may change over time.

I usually play through a 1x12 Combo amp. My "A" rig is a Mesa 5:50 which is loaded with the V30 and depending on the venue, set it atop a Marshall 2x12 cab loaded with (1x)Celestion Vintage 30 and (1x) Celestion G12T-75. The bright crisp texture of the V30 against the deeper color G12T really gives a nice balance. My "B" rig is a Peavey Classic 30 loaded with a V30 and depending on the venue, set atop 1 1x12 cab loaded with a Celestion G12T-75. This setup lets me play anything from Country to Heavey Metal. What is really nice about the Vintage 30 is that it is an affordable quality speaker that can be a great foundation to build your sound on. It cuts through a live band very well and the more time you play on them, they seem to soften up a little bit making them sound even better. With any peice of music equipment, beauty is in the ear of the beholder. For my ear, the Celestion Vintage 30 has been a stable mate for long time because of the sound I'm able to produce from it.

Comments about Celestion Vintage 30 60W, 12" Guitar Speaker:

I'm not a big speaker enthusiast, and this speaker was my first foray into the aftermarket upgrade world. I installed it into a Blackstar HT20, which had a Celestion Rocket 50 originally. This speaker greatly improved the clarity of the sound, though added a grainy, brittle quality. Still, a huge improvement overall - especially when using humbuckers.

While it was not ideal for the HT20, I have one installed in a Bogner amp, and it sounds fantastic for most applications.

My main complaint is that the highs can be harsh, and the bass response is sometimes insufficient, especially with power chords and distortion. Also, it's much heavier than other speakers (not a big deal).

Seems to be a great speaker for lead sounds, not so much for rhythm.
