I initially purchased these picks (in the thickest 1.90 mm gauge) for use with mandolin; the standard width and thinness of average guitar picks wasn't giving me the response I needed for fast mandolin trills. I liked the extreme thickness and rigidity, but my first overall impression was that the surface of the acetal material was a little too soft and forgiving, unable to produce the bright "ring" off the strings I was looking for. They were obviously leagues above standard medium guitar picks, even though I wasn't exactly in love with them.
Then one day, just out of curiosity, I tried them out on electric guitar and was immediately impressed at how responsive they were, for both rhythm and lead. After playing guitar with one for a few days, I realized that the oils from my fingers, combined with the eventual wear from the strings, had helped to grind down and solidify the acetal material, giving it the more rigid, rock-hard texture I was hoping for in the first place. Now these picks give me an amazing attack and response with a bright, clean tone. I mostly play original music that incorporates many different styles, so versatility is important. I can literally get anything I need from these picks. It's almost like using my bare fingers, but without ripping my skin wide open!
So, my friends, if you're looking for some seriously great thick 'n' meaty teardrop picks that will give you everything you need (from romantic Mediterranean mandolin trills to creamy honky-tonkin' Danny Gatton-style chickin' pickin' to hardcore speed-metal shred marathons and anything in between) pick up a pack of these 1.90 mm gauge Clayton Small Acetal Teardrop Picks and start wearing them in the way you'd wear-in a brand-new pair of workboots. Keep a couple in your pocket along with your loose change and roll them around between your thumb and forefinger while waiting in line at the pizza joint. You'll be pickin' like crazy in no time!

My partner and I have preferred this brand and size of guitar picks for years. As a woman with extremely small hands (as in unable to reach an octave on the piano), I find them much easier to handle than larger guitar picks. My partner, though having what I guess you'd call "normal" size hands, also prefers them for their durability, flexibility and control. Unfortunately, these guitar picks are getting harder and harder to find at retail outlets, so we recently placed a large order of these with Musician's Friend which should last us quite awhile. If you prefer this type and size guitar pick, get 'em while they last; it's looking like these so called "jazz picks" might go the way of the 8-track in the foreseeable future.

I use the .50mm for all my electric playing. Been using them for 10+ years and have a good stash of them so I never run out. I really like the feel of the acetal in my fingers and they never seem to slip or drop out while playing. The texture is roughed up just enough to keep a good grip on them. Great for soloing and pinch harmonics, fast or slow picking.

I love Clayton picks. I play rock and roll. I used to take jazz lessons and my teacher turned me on to teardrop picks. So, I play rock and still love these things.

I used to play .38's. But I went up a hardness on a lark and I like it better. Better tone and definition. Louder. That's all. Rock on.

                  Clayton .50mm Teardrop Picks

                  from Oklahoma City

Comments about Clayton Acetal Small Teardrop Guitar Picks:

I'm very pleased with the price of the Clayton picks. I actually have roughly 15 of these that are faded and some of mine may be as much as 30 years old. The price is great compared to retail music outlets. However I noticed that the .50mm older picks I have are noticeably thicker than the new .50mm Clayton picks I just received. The composition of these picks has always given a very bright crisp sound compared to others. I haven't put a micrometer to them yet, but I'm sure the new ones are thinner and 'flippier' than the old ones. I found this a little disappointing.

These pic's are absolutely amazing! I have used Jazz III's in red, black and ultex for years now and since I tried one of these, I will never go back! They sound much livelier on the strings and play smoother to boot. The 1.26mm is the perfect size substitute for a Jazz III and has about the same stiffnes as the black or Ultex III. These are also way easier to hold onto, last longer and are less expensive as well. Go get 'em!

I've got one of these in my collection( a 1.0 mm)and though I really don't use it much, if at all, these seem to great picks for hybrid picking ( fingerstyle picking technique that incorporates both a straight plectrum and the last three fingers working together). Plus, the Acetal material is much more durable than celluloid.

Comments about Clayton Acetal Small Teardrop Guitar Picks:

I had not played guitar for 30 odd years and then one day started playing again... At first I used a standard sized pick... after awhile I thought this ain't working... pick was in the way of my attempts at string attacks, it didn't feel right like the old days. So I went to the guitar store and browsed through the picks... I saw the Clayton tear drops, and in a flash of memory said "That's it!" I've been reunited with my old friends. These picks are perfect for my style from hard classic rock to cleaner tones and subtle blues riffs. If you've never used one of these, buy 'em, try 'em... they may just bring out a new tone in your playing... that is what happened to me back in the late 60s and 70s!
