OVERVIEW

Silky feel, brilliant tone, and incredible string life.

Gauges: 13-17-26-36-46-56

Cleartone Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings feature the finest phosphor bronze available for the warmest and brightest resonance on acoustic guitars. A unique treatment called EMP coats the entire string with an ultrathin protective film. It's the thinnest coating ever applied to guitar strings (less than one micron!) and will withstand more abuse from hard strumming than coatings 1000 times thicker! EMP ensures longer string life by protecting strings from corrosion due to skin acidity, salt, and moisture without compromising feel and sound.

Super-high tension winding over a hex-core is used to maintain tuning consistency throughout performance duration.

FEATURES
  • Thinnest coating ever!
  • Dramatically increases string life
  • Protects strings from corrosion
  • Withstands hard strumming

This is high-tech you don't have to understand to appreciate. Order a few sets today.

I have been playing acoustic guitar for 25 years and play in the studio and live weekly. These strings are bright and hold their tone longer than any other brand. Elixirs are my 2nd choice. These strings are so good that Acoustic Music Revival (A local Denver Acoustic Guitar Shop) puts them on all of their instruments.

2 weeks ago, I bought a Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings package from Musiciansfriend. Things went really well except some weird things happened to the string.
When I set strings on the guitar. The sound was really loud and clear which I love. But then I played and saw somethings weird on the string.
It's look like I was scratching off the light layer from the coat in just about half an hour playing
I didn't use any tool, just fingers for left hand and nails for right hand.
Now, those strings are completely oxidized. I attached some pictures for you to see it.
The thing is the part of string ABOVE the Nut look band new and light. The part of string near the Sound Hole just get a bit darker but still light.
The part from 1st fret to 16th fret got completely oxidizing, when I slide my finger on it, it doesn't feel smooth, some bronze metal things stick to my hand and it smells like metal.

Comments about Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I did another review of this same brand, so I will say these sound good when you put them on, another brand can take some time to sound their best. A little louder, a little better tone, but a little rougher than the other brand because of the different coating. This is all subjective, but to my ear they sound better. Not a lot but better. I like coated strings because they last a LOT longer than plain strings, if these last like the others they will be my brand from now on.

Comments about Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I bought these strings upon the recommendation of my guitar shop to compare with my trusted Elixir Nanoweb strings.

Compared to the Elixirs the Cleartones failed to provide the oomph of new strings right from the beginning. They are less smooth, don't look that nice and sound duller than the Elixirs. After a few weeks they went dull with oxidation and the sound -- especially of the lower E, A, D and G -- went almost completely dead.

I am used to the lovely shine, the smoothness and the abundance of lovely high harmonics of Elixirs. I could not hear any of the 36 per cent more volume either, not that I ever play loudly.

I am a figerstyle guitarist who goes very easy on the strings and can get a useful life of 4-6 months out of a set of Elixirs. Now, after two months I badly want to change the Cleartones.

The bottom line? I would not buy these strings again and would not recommend them to my friends either. They are not that cheaper than Elixirs. If you are tight on cash buy plain vanilla strings instead - you don't expect much but at least they don't disappoint.

Comments about Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Just replaced my first set of these with my 2nd set. 1st set lasted 4.5 months through some pretty harsh weather & humidity changes. that is unheard of for me. Also, I play harder than most people, and more often. I found them to be bright and sweet, with just a tiny hint of "coated" mushiness. Not as awesome as the Slinky Acoustic strings I used to use, but very nice and natural sounding. They did retain their shiny-ness far longer than any other string I've used. They stayed shiny even after they started to lose tone. Strange but they seem to lose tone very slowly. I think they were fine for 3 months or so. Note: I did break a 4th string (.36) after about 16 weeks. All-in-all a great set of strings, with features that a gigging musician can appreciate. Still, for the price, it's about a break-even prospect. I just don't like to restring my acoustic every 28 days..!

My new acoustic string of choice

Comments about Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I've played 30 years now and have tried all the coated strings more than a few times and have the best luck with these. My Collings sounds like it should and they last longer than any other coated string I've tried. I just played my second weekend of bluegrass on the same set...unheard of with ANY other coated string I've tried.

Comments about Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I Tried these strings out and switched from Elixers. Once trying them I will stick with them. Not only do they provide a deep baseline tone and nice melody tones, they hold thier tune and last much longer than the elixcers.Great strings, a little pricey.

Comments about Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I purchased a set of these to try on my Larrivee OMV-09E acoutstic guitar in comparrison to the Elixir nanoweb, polyweb, and nanoweb phosphor bronze strings (all of which I have used in the past, with my favorite being the phosphor bronze nanoweb). My initial impression was that the sound was nice and balanced, with a little less high end and a little more low end responce than with the Elixirs. These strings seem to have a more vintage type sound to them. An immeadiate turn off was the feel. These strings, as advertized, feel just like uncoated strings, which I think feel too rough and tend to stick when sliding your fingers over them. The final nail in the coffin is that these strings simply don't last as long as Elixirs. I can use a set of Elixirs for a month before noticing any tone deadening and can usually go two or three months before they are totally dead. I've had the Cleartone set on my guitar for a month now and they are TOTALLY dead. Additionally, they are starting to get discolored and sort of grimy despite that I wash my hands before playing. I have not had this problem with the Elixirs. Bottom line, these strings don't measure up to the longevity or tone of the Elixirs, they are too expensive, and I don't care for the feel.

Comments about Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

these strings were all hype. elixir's are far superior, and i think that if anyone had to "a" and "b" them with a set of elixir's, none of them would walk away with cleartones. the price being asked is ridiculous. the only upside of cleartones is that i haven't broken a string yet; elixir's have yet to correct that flaw. on the back of most coated string boxes it might read, "last's as long as 2-3 sets of uncoated strings." the funny part is, you can buy 3-4 packs of uncoated strings for the price of one set of cleartones. i don't recommend them.

          What a waste

Comments about Cleartone Coated Phosphor-Bronze Medium Acoustic Guitar Strings:

I bought these stings last week, and restrung my Taylor with them. And I have to say, these are the worst sounding strings I've owned. It's been a week and the coating last nowhere near as long as Elixers. The first few days, the stings left my fingers black, with residue. I've gotten much better sound out of $5 Earthwoods, which I will be replacing these with. Don't waste your time and money.
