If you're thinking for trading your old straight capo for this, don't.Putting it on is not something you can do casually between songs ? it's a procedure that takes a bit of time and fidgeting with both hands (lift all the "fingers" up, pull the end pieces apart, put on, tighten, align "fingers" with the strings). The "fingers" move freely on the shaft, which means it will work on a variety of neck widths and string counts ? works great on my fretless Jazz Bass. It also means you have to move them into proper place yourself.Once it's on and set, it's great and does what it claims. Very solid, and you can vary the force on each string by angling the "finger" differently. Possible to flip them during performance, though not as smoothly as a Hipshot or D-tuna, I imagine.

This capo was a brilliant idea that all but failed when put into practice. It took multiple tries and about ten minutes of tinkering before I got it to hold down ANY strings. When I finally managed to get it placed right it worked like a charm.....until I tried to move it. I loosened the top screw almost to the point of falling off and it still would not budge. After a lot of effort it popped off and left indentations on the neck of my guitar. This product is bad quality, low performance, and over priced. Not to mention that it has the potential to damage your instrument.

Comments about Creative Tunings Universal Capo - SpiderCapo:

Works as stated. The individual 'cams'[they call them "Nubs"can adjust to any string width, so it is universal. Of course you have to line them up [duh!]. This is a plus, not a negative as stated in last review! I'm having a very cool time with it so I kinda have to answer to unfair criticisms.

The "Tabs" help with being able to take it on'off by feel, without looking. After 1/2 dozen times I am able to do this.
There is a red letter warning in the instructions to be sure the Tabs are above the Fingerboard before tightening. So,with common sense, no chance of damaging your instrument. Also I like that organic leather touches the guitar wood, not metal or plastic of other capos. Good job there.

The tunings are way cool. Yes, different from turning the tuning pegs for open tunings [which makes ALL fingerings unrelated to guitar fingeings]. This way can still use whatever guitar knowledge you have, AND have the open tuning to make new voicings and 'rubs'. I'm not an adanced player at all but I am finding my own sound. ...way cool.

Comments about Creative Tunings Universal Capo - SpiderCapo:

This is an interesting idea, but I was dissappointed for several reasons. First, this is a whole different world of alternate tunings than the standard way. Not enough room to go into details, but it is not an "easier way" of alternate tunings, but rather creates a whole different world. This may be a positive for some palyers, but not what I wanted. Also, athough the build quality is good, you must line up each individual cam on each string, and I found the instructions for this process ambiguous and not helpful: There are some molding ridges on each cam that are supposed to help with this, but I found them useless and ended up having to line them up for each string by eye anyway. Very tedious. Even if you used it as a normal capo, which you can, it is much slower than a normal capo with all the string alignments, etc. So, no way would I use this for live performances. And the final straw that made me return mine, was the way it attaches to the neck. I came extremely close to damaging my $2000 Martin because of it. First, understand that the capo clamps onto the guitar neck with the strength of a small c-clamp using knob-type a thumb screw. There are 4 tiny, but ridgid, metal "tabs" that you can barely see (even though they painted one white) that are supposed to sit right above the fingerboard, behind the fret you're capoing. If you are off by even 1/32 of an inch and then tighten the screw, these will easily dig into you fingerboard causing damage. No thanks. All I can see is this product working for some virtuoso players in a studio environment.

Comments about Creative Tunings Universal Capo - SpiderCapo:

This capo, although some folks don't realize that it's made for all guitars, is very useful and works great. It's made of metal and has plastic hammers for fretting individual strings at a certain fret. Each hammer can be moved for wide fret boards or narrow fret boards...so yes it can take a minute to set up, but the product is designed this way to work for all guitars. This is not a quick change capo but is very useful when you record one guitar track and then want to record a second guitar with a different tuning. I highly recommend this product. It's so fun to use when being creative in songwriting. It could be improved with rubber-tipped hammers but this is still a worthy addition to any creative guitarist.

Comments about Creative Tunings Universal Capo - SpiderCapo:

I am an average player, I can play a few chords, but I have to say I immediately expanded my guitar repertoire once I put this thing on. I started with the DADGAD tuning and just played the chords I already know. Right off the bat, I had a new song! I admit I'm kind of excited so please excuse my gushing.
At first I had to be careful putting it on and taking it off. And I learned you have to be sure you have tightened it enough or it will lift up a tiny bit over the treble strings and you will get buzzing. But after a few times, I was able to put it on and take it off just by feel- without looking. Well worth the effort.

I use this capo often in my performances and find it easy to use. I think that some people are not following how to use it. This is not a replacement for a standard capo! This is to change tunings without detuning your strings. It is very effective for this purpose and it is possible to play on either side of the capo. Endless possibilities!!!

Comments about Creative Tunings Universal Capo - SpiderCapo:

I've seen reviews about folks complaining that it takes a while to set up. This is not a quick change capo and is built to fit many different sized fret boards. I bet this would work on just about any size fret board, which is why the fretters are adjustable. All guitars are not made to the same specs, so they designed this capo so you can use it on any 6-string. I bet it would even work for a 3/4 size guitar for a child because everything is adjustable! The fretters are made of plastic, but I'm not sure what other material would be better, maybe rubber. So, this capo does what it's supposed to do, but you may have to retune your strings after putting the capo on, just like with all other capos. I look forward to writing some new tunes using this innovative capo and I think it will last a long time, if it's taken care of.
