Comments about Cympad Cymbal Washer Optimizer 2 Piece Crash Set:

these little things are great, they do make a difference, however, they do not retain their shape after leaving them under cymbals for a couple weeks. So...remember to take them off for storing longer than a week!

Comments about Cympad Cymbal Washer Optimizer 2 Piece Crash Set:

Let me start by saying that I do not use a top felt on any of my cymbals, and I use tall cymbal sleeves so the wing nut, even when tightened down all the way, still allows the cymbals to have 100% full range of movement, as if there was no wing nut attached at all. I like my cymbals to move freely and unobstructed, for cymbal safety and because they sound better that way. Because of this, I was only using one Cympad per stand (on the bottom, obviously).

I didn't notice any difference in sound at all. On several different types of ride cymbals, crash cymbals, and even smaller splashes. I did my testing by myself with no other instruments, and played the cymbals both alone and with the rest of the kit. Again, I didn't hear any difference in sound between the Cympads and traditional felts.

The one thing I did notice though, was the movement and "feel" of hitting the crash cymbals was noticeably different. I play my crash cymbals mostly flat, with the just a very slight angle towards me. As with traditional felts, instead of swinging back and forth several times after the initial hit , with the Cympads the cymbal "bounced" back up more quickly and only moved back and forth twice on the stand, vs several times that I am used to with traditional felts. So, to me, it felt like my wing nut was tightened down a lot further than it was, even though the cymbal was not even close to making contact with it. The same can be said on the initial stick hit on the crash, the cymbal felt more "controlled" movement-wise and had more resistance against my stick with the Cympad, again just as if there were a wingnut fairly tight on the stand already.

This is not a bad product, and they are affordable enough to try for yourself, but don't expect a huge difference in sound, or even a slight difference in sound for that matter.. Also, if you mount your cymbals freely and uninhibited like I do, you will most certainly notice the "resistance" that these Cympads give.
