I got the strings just to try something new. I always though roundwound strings felt a little rough, yet flatwound strings sounded too dull. I got these, thinking they would stay on for a couple of days, just as a quick experiment. NO WAY! They feel almost as smooth as flatwounds, sound just as bright as a broken-in set of roundwounds, giving me the best of both worlds. I slapped this set onto my favorite axe, and I can get all the tones I need. I can get bright rhythm sounds, dark jazz sounds, punchy rock sounds, I can even get downtuned riffage with just as much clarity as a roundwound set. Tension is about the same as a set of pure-nickel strings, bending is very easy. I imagine that, on a jazz box, these would give a similar effect (more clarity, smooth feel)
So, whether you play a solidbody rock axe or a classy archtop, try these strings
They stay in tune and haven't snapped yet, even under constant abuse (hard right-hand attack, wide vibrato, big bends, metal picks)
Even though they cost a little bit more, it's worth it to get strings that feel and sound this good

I was really looking forward to getting these half-round strings. I had been using the D'Addario Chromes (flat-wound strings) on my Ibanez AK86 jazzbox and loved the feel, but wanted a brighter sound. The half-rounds were supposed to have the same feel as flat-wounds but with the brighter sound I wanted.

Boy was I disappointed! The sound was brighter, true; but the strings feel HORRIBLE. If you've ever played a guitar that had really old strings on it -- I mean strings that haven't been changed in 5 to 10 years (I've played quite a few of these in pawn shops) -- that's what these strings feel like. Whatever process D'Addario is using to grind the widings down and make them smooth, it ain't working!

I gave the strings two weeks (playing everyday) to see if they would smooth out and get better, but they didn't. I finally went back to the Chromes.

I just put these strings on my Fender Telecaster & they sound & feel really nice. It's not as bright as round wound strings which I do like & I like that it feels smooth on my fingers. I love the tone that I get from these strings.

Opted to try these half rounds on my electric and love the tone and feel.
The 3rd string is a solid not wound, but gives great tone/clarity.
Plan to continue using through another couple sets. Anticipate continuing these!

Nice smooth tone without going to flat wounds which always sounded too dark for my taste. Alot of people say they're easier on the fingers than rounds, but i don't really feel that, I think they should just play more honestly. Try them, the price is right, nothing to lose and you may really like them. I love em.

It brought my ES-175 to life with a brighter smoother resonant sound. They feel different from flats but are easy to get used to. No more flat sounding dead lower strings. You can turn down tone with pots but you can't increase it as these strings do. I like the 10's.

Comments about D'Addario EHR310 Half Round Regular Light Electric Guitar Strings:

To those who have criticized these strings as too rough or that they "tear up" you fingers I would say, practice more and develop some calluses. These strings are VERY close to being as smooth as chrome flat rounds but are MUCH louder and clearer on the bottom 4 than flats. I use this lighter gauge (10-46) because I need to bend the strings in my blues/rock work but I can see these doing as well in a jazz scene.
I love em and I plan to buy them again...and again.

                  Dissapointed in Half Rounds

Comments about D'Addario EHR310 Half Round Regular Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I was hoping that these strings would be slick and easy on my fingers like flat wound, preserve that flat-wound bass, and be light enough fore easy play. I was dissappointed on all counts. These strings chewed up my fingers, had nothing to recommend them in the bass or treble, and sounded less smooth than the Fenders and flat wound D'Adarios that I had been using. A waste of time and money.

Looking for a change? Worth giving a try.

Comments about D'Addario EHR310 Half Round Regular Light Electric Guitar Strings:

Since moving out of the classic rock cover band thing, I was looking for a way to change and expand my tone. I put a set of Thomastik flatwounds my Guild Starfire and was very pleased; however, they are pretty expensive. The Half Rounds are a great alternative. they really bring out the depth of sound of my hollow bodies (Guild and Gibson), and retain enough of the round wound ring to be lively. They are certainly not for everyone, but they could be what you are looking for. Cheaper than buying a new amp or guitar, althought there is nothing wrong with that!
