I wanted to try thicker string and bought these. they are quality strings, sliding fingers make noise but the strings are high quality with good sound. I will buy the same brand a thinner one.

These strings sound great! they also work well if you are going anywhere from a C tuning up to a D tuning. These were not that great when I tuned down to a B baritone tuning though. They got a little too slinky.

I put these on an acoustic and detuned down to C, the point being to allow folks to sing songs that were in a key higher than they would otherwise be able to reach, and still use the "original" chord formations. Working great. Definitely a different sound than standard E tuning but no buzz or other negatives when tuning down to C. I normally use elixir mediums but could not find elixirs in a heavy gauge.

While I wouldn,t recommend using these for standard tuning on a modern flat top, they are PERFECT at standard pitch on my 75 year old Super 400 Archtop that was designed & built for heavy strings.
With high action & an extra heavy pick these strings are LOUD. People ask me Where's the amp? (Of course there isn't one)

I've been using these (in standard tuning) on an 18" acoustic archtop guitar. I hold down the rhythm guitar chair in an 18-piece big band. Ya gotta play with a very hard attack to be heard with all those horns. These strings do it. After trying many other strings (mostly med. gauge) that would break under the heavy attack in the middle of a set, I tried these. They don't break, no matter how hard you hit 'em. And they sound great. Folks are always remarking on how nice my guitar sounds, and these strings are a big factor. When I play solo, people wonder where the amp is. If you have an archtop, try 'em. Nothing else compares.

Like i said! Heavier strings for lower tunnings will get the best sound from your guitar. Not recommended for standard tuning.

Fattened Up the Tone on my SJ-200

                    By

Comments about D'Addario EJ18 PB Heavy Acoustic Guitar Strings Set:

I put these strings on my Gibson SJ-200 to fatten the tone and man what a difference. I tune a half-step anyway so no extra strain on the neck.

When I hook up the Overdrive pedal you'd think I was playing a Les Paul.
Give the strings a shot if you're looking to adjust your guitar sound. It's just strings, you can change if you don't like them.
                    Stong enough. I haven't broken a string.
Good price (or maybe regular price) for non-coated strings. If they made them in the coated version, I'd buy them.

Just thought I'd throw in another two cents worth on these Phosphor Bronze Heavy (.014-.059)strings from D'Addario...I use these on a prototype Composite Acoustic C.O.T. with a bit of a neck relief issue. These EJ18s have saved the day. Great tone and feel. If they were available in EXPs, I'd use those instead (and would've given 5 stars across the board in this review as well). Please keep these in stock MF. Thanks db

I'm using these strings on a Fender standard scale acoustic tuned to "B" like a baritone. The tension is great for this tuning. I'm really impressed by the clarity and volume of these strings. The tone is great as well.I highly recommend these strings to those looking to experiment in the lower registers (below "C").

                    Fuller-sounding Little Martin, detuned

Comments about D'Addario EJ18 PB Heavy Acoustic Guitar Strings Set:

I play a Little Martin LXMe and I like tuning the little guitar down to give it some extra bass. The issue with heavy strings is the increased tension that many guitars cannot take, but I figured that tuning them down to Standard D will give roughly the same tension as the Mediums (that the Little Martin usually uses), tuned to Standard, so I tried a set these. So far, they're doing pretty well. The extra thickness really helps with volume and fullness. Probably not the best for the nut (which is set to fit mediums), but other than that, it really has a noticeable improvement to sound. Although I may eventually go back to medium gauges, but trying this was definitely not a bad decision.
