Comments about D'Addario EJ83L Gypsy Jazz Silver Wound Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Had a set of coated strings by the same manufacturer on my Takamine EAN 40C acoustic-electric, and like every set of coated string I've ever tried, they just sounded dull after a month or so. After reading reviews on MF and other places, I ordered these strings. My vocalist was impressed by the improvement in tone- as am I. They are not overly bright, but the best description I can give is that they're "balanced". For a light-guage string, the bass notes are solid, and the uppers are clear without being harsh or tinny. This set has only been played a few hours, so I can't review longevity yet. If that turns out to be reasonable, I plan on reordering these strings!

    Gypsy Jazz Strings

    By Thomas Tannehill

    from Mississippi

Comments about D'Addario EJ83L Gypsy Jazz Silver Wound Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

It is always a matter of taste and personal preference, but I really like the sound and feel of these strings. I have the set that starts with 10's. I replaced the G string because I cannot stand a wound G, but D'Addario has no acoustic sets with plain G's. I have been doing this with the bronze sets for years. I like my strings to be the same on all my guitars, so I am considering finding out how these sound on my strat.
I was looking for some strings for my Ovation Elite that were bright but did not sound tinny. I believe I have the best set available in the Gypsies.
D'Addario Strings. You know they are quality.
Everybody knows MF has best price.

    D'addario Gypsy Strings

Comments about D'Addario EJ83L Gypsy Jazz Silver Wound Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

Overall a good value in playability combined with pricing. As with all D'Addario string sets they come all in one pack and have color coded end balls to tell them apart quickly. I prefer single paper pack PER string, but this is how they save money in packaging. So, not very convenient but saves money for them and us.
Really nice set of strings. Good tone and nice feel to the fingers. I will probably use them on all my acoustic guitars except those I play bottleneck on. These flatpick well and fingerpick nicely, very easy on the flesh of both hands.
They have only been on for a week so I don't know about durability and how long the tone will sound like new.
There is another brand that the Gypsy guitarists use. I haven't tried them and they do cost a little more than the D'Addario. After I get a set of the other brand I will let you know.

Great sound, but why the colored ball-ends?

    By joe shmoe

    from Atlanta

Comments about D'Addario EJ83L Gypsy Jazz Silver Wound Light Acoustic Guitar Strings:

In a pinch, I had put a cheap set of bronze wound strings on my Selmer style guitar. After changing them out for these, I could hear a huge difference. The tone was much more vibrant and balanced. The bass is not overbearing as it was with the bronze strings. The only thing I don't like about them is that although they are "specially designed for Django-style acoustic guitar playing", they are ball ends instead of loop ends. While this isn't a big deal, it's compounded by the fact that D'Addario doesn't package the strings individually. Instead, they rely on color-coding the ball ends to identify which string is which. On a typical acoustic this doesn't matter at all, but on a gypsy style guitar where the string ends are exposed, you end up seeing a rainbow of little studs back at the tailpiece. Definitely the gypsy sound, just not quite the gypsy look. That said, for the price you can't beat them. I'll always go for sound over looks any day.
