Wound with pure nickel, then precision ground, leaving the outer surface smooth and "semi-flat." They retain the flexibility and many of the tonal characteristics of round wound strings. Half Round heat-treating process increases the brightness of the strings. Super long scale.

Comments about D'Addario ENR71-5SL Half Rounds Super Long Scale Light 5-String Bass Strings:
Overall 4 due to the price and concept of packaging.
This set is out of a reasonable price range. I'm a D'Addario lifer (since 1974), but no way am I paying this price everytime I change strings. Recommend doing what I do: I have a G&L L-2500 and string thru the back. I buy the ENR-71 4-string set and use that to replace the G-D-A-E (same strings in this pack) and then use this set when I absolutely need to replace the low B. I talked to a D'Addario rep when I 1st got my G&L about eliminating this XL set and marketing the low B by itself in the .130 AND .125 gauges. He said "sounds good" but haven't seen this come out, yet (and, yes, I'm disapponited). The ENR-71 4 string set (Long Scale) works just fine, but the Long Scale 5 string set does not have a long enough B string (but I've never really actually tried it). I discovered that the 4 string set worked by experimentation, since I use this set on my Guild SB-602 4-string bass (which, by the way, is a rare early prototype w/maple fingerboard).
Quailty up to par with D'Addario stds.
