OVERVIEW

Deep, warm tone with a smooth feel.

D'Addario ETB92-5 Medium Black Nylon Tapewound 5-String Bass Strings are designed to produce a deep, warm tone while providing a smooth, comfortable feel. D'Addario Tapewound Bass strings are wound using a flattened black nylon which is polished to an ultra-smooth finish.

These long-lasting, well-balanced strings are expertly engineered to provide optimal tension and are gauged to fit properly on standard bass saddles and nuts. Tapewounds may be used on fretted or fretless basses and are designed to deliver a vintage tone ranging from the "thump" of an upright bass to the focused depth of traditional flatwound strings.

After almost 30 years of playing stringed and fretted instruments, I finally gave these Black Nylon's a try on an Active Jazz V Bass. I've always liked Pyramid Flatwounds and the D'addario Chromes but these strings are what I have been looking for the whole time. I dislike that clangy, rattley, treble heavy bass tone that most roundwound strings seem to produce, especially a Low B. These string's have the warmth and body of a flatwound but an even smoother quality that gets me as close to an Upright Bass as an Electric Bass can get. Plus, the Low B doesn't sound like a buzz saw rattling against your frets allowing for more articulate pitch. D'addario makes great strings so the other reviewers complaining about scale length probably don't understand how it works. The Long Scale worked perfectly on my 34" Jazz once trimmed to the appropriate length. They are a little pricey but I see these strings lasting at least a year as they are very easy to clean/wipe down when you are done playing.

I own a 5-string Cort. I've experimented with quite a few types of strings over the years. I'm personally partial to a not-so-bright sound. I've heard and read reviews about the tapewound strings, bought them and tried them out. The feel was extraordinary - they felt playable unlike any string I've tried before, But the strings buzzed excessively when played open. I probably would recommend these strings if you don't have them set up low to the fretboard as I do. But for me, I'm going back to "Daddy's" (D'Addario's) halfwounds.

Comments about D'Addario ETB92-5 Medium Black Nylon Tapewound 5-String Bass Strings:

These are the absolute perfect strings for the right situation. Reading the other reviews, I think some people didn't know what they were getting, which happens sometimes when you branch out into new things. I put these on my Godin A5 (electric semi-hollow bass) and was blown away by the sound. The guys I gig with have all commented on the great presence, thump, mix-cutting growl I can get with these strings. If I roll back the highs, I can almost get an upright. But let's be clear - only an upright sounds like exactly an upright. These get a great tone that have caused me to leave my other basses at home or off-stage on gigs. These are part of my primary setup. The trick for me to get a killer sound with these is to turn the volume down a little on the bass and dig in with your right hand. I do tons of country (of course in Nashville) jazz, and classic rock/Americana. These strings probably aren't for head bangers, and the ax you put them on probably matters. With my active pickup/preamp I've found the right sound in every situation so far.

ETB92-5 Nylon Bass Strings, for long neck bass check the pounds the strings do & avoid warp bass

Comments about D'Addario ETB92-5 Medium Black Nylon Tapewound 5-String Bass Strings:

The thing, to look for on bass strings is the: "POUNDS" the strings put on the neck of the bass, that is if you don't want to buy a new one every year or work with a bow n arrow one.
Make sure you get the long neck strings, and avoid warpped necks.
FOR SURE, NYLONS DO TAKE IT EASY ON THE POUNDS OF STRESS ON THE NECK.
What good is what you like in tone about the strings, if the bass turns into a bow n arrow condition.
I like the strings floating just off the frets, for fast action, right?
I like them. At first I was worried that the large diameter, of the strings would not sit into their grooves but the large diameter of the strings just kept from reaching the neck grooves.
and they tuned just fine. Looks like the E string is sitting a little higher because of not fitting the groove it's resting a little high.
Also, the B string is too, large to go through the same hole, the wire B came out from, so it will just need to be drilled slightly bigger to accommodate the larger diameter of the Nylon, no biggy for me...
It is quite a relief, not to have finger burn, from flying across the strings, thanks A'ddroid Strings.
The POUNDS these strings, produce on the neck is the best, I've seen, but I haven't compared with other nylons, but compared to steel, its 1/3 as much,or less good for straight fret-board...
      I like mellow...
      Excellent Price, and quality.

Comments about D'Addario ETB92-5 Medium Black Nylon Tapewound 5-String Bass Strings:

These strings are pretty nice, they have a great warm and round kind of tone, has a kind of upright bass type of tone to them. They're slick to the touch and if you like throwing slides into your music all the time like me this is a huge plus, it almost makes my bass sound fretless somehow. These do have a very different tone than what most are used to so be careful. Do research before you grab them. Only Rotosound's tapewounds top these and only barely!

Comments about D'Addario ETB92-5 Medium Black Nylon Tapewound 5-String Bass Strings:

This is my first time messing around with tape-wound strings, so I wasn't too sure what to expect given the wide range of opinions about them. I just got these strings a few hours ago, and I have to say I'm already impressed. I put them on my Ibanez 5-string fretless in place of the flat-wounds that were on it. The flat-wounds sounded great. These tape-wounds sound even better and are even easier on the fingers. I know some people had to make some adjustments on their instruments, but mine went right on with no problems at all. They tuned up and stayed in key much more quickly than I expected. They can sound a bit more like a stand-up bass but can get bright and edgy when I adjust the tone and blend on my bass. The funny thing is, my bass is all black, including the neck, and these black strings almost disappear. Now my fretless looks almost string-less as well. I'm going to have some fun with some people! I've no doubt I'll be sticking with these string for this bass.

The sound rage from super low bottom to the bright highs, covers all the music I play. I'm staying with these for my 5 string and checking to see if they have them in 4 string.
