OVERVIEW

Bass strings with a vintage tone and a smooth feel.

Designed to produce a deep, warm tone with smooth feel, D'Addario Tapewound Bass strings are wound using a flattened black nylon, which is polished to an ultra-smooth finish. Tapewounds may be used on fretted or fretless basses and are designed to deliver a vintage tone ranging from the "thump" of an upright bass to the focused depth of traditional flatwound strings.

These strings fill an important niche...nylon wrapped strings that may be used to replicate string bass tones. Brigher than nickel flats, and a little less bright than nickel groundwounds, these strings live up to the manufacturer's claim that they "fit" standard basses with no/minimal modifications needing to be made, such as nut filing or major neck truss rod adjustments. The ability of being able to "throw" a different style of string on a bass without needing adjustments by a luthier is a big selling point. I installed a set of these on a fretless bass, replacing the stock strings, and they fit perfectly at the outset, only requiring a little truss rod tweaking. They have a good quality sound, and really add to the "mwah" factor that's important to the fretless experience. I strongly recommend that if someone wants to try nylon flats on a bass but doesn't want to nut file it for the strings to seat properly to purchase these strings. Down the road, if the sound is pleasing, then it may be worthwhile to go to a larger diameter string set (with the needed modifications) if one wishes to do so. So far, these strings fill the bill perfectly for me.

Comments about D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Medium Gauge Bass Strings:

I play a Tacoma acoustic Thunder Chief that came with metal strings. Mostly old time folk and country. When I changed them, it was a world of difference No string scratch coming through the amp and when hooked to a sub-woofer, my bass sounds like a big bull fiddle. Lost all my callus', but still real easy to play. When it is hot and sweaty, I put foot powder on my fingers to slide more easily, and with these strings, there is no gumming up like the metal ones. My first set lasted a year and very rarely went out of tune.

I put these on my Carvin LB20 and Fender Aerodyne J-Bass well over a year ago. I've used them for blues, classic rock and alternative rock. I can't think of a single bad thing to say about them. I like to experiment with different strings, but I doubt I'll be using any other bass strings in the near future.

I've always been a flatwound guy. My favorite strings have always been D'Addario Chromes. Thought I'd give these a try,and now have another favorite. Smooth, good tension and great tone on my P-bass. Not quite ready to put them on all my axes, but great vintage tone on the P-bass.

I really like this brand of string, but the windings at the base of the nylon tapewound strings are too fat to fit through the access hole in a Bad*** II bridge on my Marcus Miller 4-string Fender Jazz Bass.

Comments about D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Medium Gauge Bass Strings:

I put these on my Yamaha BB424X. They sound and feel great. To me they actually sound brighter than flats and I kind of like the slap tone of them as well. If you put a foam under your strings and roll off the tone you'll get a nice "Thud" from them. They are very smooth on your fingers so sliding on them is a pleasure! I presume they'll sound even better on Fretless or hollow body basses.

I love how smooth they are to the touch. Makes my acoustic bass sound almost fretless with an upright's mellow tone. Just put them on so I don't know how long they'll last but they seem like quality long life strings!!

Love these strings! They give me that low, smooth, deep tone that I look for in a string. Some would say these have a dead tone, but t I don't get that. I use these strings on al my basses including my hand made fretless. I would recommend these strings to anyone especially if you like to do slides. The strings are so silky smooth. Even if your fingers get a little damp from sweating you can still smoothly slide, unlike the flat wounds I've used in the past that get sticky if your fingers aren't perfectly and completely dry.
