OVERVIEW

Designed to produce a deep, warm tone with smooth feel, D'Addario Tapewound Bass strings are wound using a flattened black nylon, which is polished to an ultra-smooth finish. These long-lasting, well-balanced strings are expertly engineered to provide optimal tension and are gauged to fit properly on standard bass saddles and nuts. Tapewounds may be used on fretted or fretless basses and are designed to deliver a vintage tone ranging from the "thump" of an upright bass to the focused depth of traditional flatwound strings.

Bass strings with a vintage tone and a smooth feel.

These strings fill an important niche...nylon wrapped strings that may be used to replicate string bass tones. Brigher than nickel flats, and a little less bright than nickel groundwounds, these strings live up to the manufacturer's claim that they "fit" standard basses with no/minimal modifications needing to be made, such as nut filing or major neck truss rod adjustments. The ability of being able to "throw" a different style of string on a bass without needing adjustments by a luthier is a big selling point. I installed a set of these on a fretless bass, replacing the stock strings, and they fit perfectly at the outset, only requiring a little truss rod tweaking. They have a good quality sound, and really add to the "mwah" factor that's important to the fretless experience. I strongly recommend that if someone wants to try nylon flats on a bass but doesn't want to nut file it for the strings to seat properly to purchase these strings. Down the road, if the sound is pleasing, then it may be worthwhile to go to a larger diameter string set (with the needed modifications) if one wishes to do so. So far, these strings fill the bill perfectly for me.

I really like this brand of string, but the windings at the base of the nylon tapewound strings are too fat to fit through the access hole in a Bad*** II bridge on my Marcus Miller 4-string Fender Jazz Bass.

Comments about D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Medium Gauge Bass Strings:

I love these strings. They are very smooth, easy on the fingers and have a warm tone. Was a little hesitant when first noticed they were 50-105. I usually use 45-105 or 45-100 and I did not want to enlarge the nut. They fit perfectly and were easy to install. I used them on an Ibanez 34" SR800 and the fit was fine. Don't know if they would be good for slapping, but for all other applications I think they have a great sound. Using a Mark Bass 15" amp with added 2 10" cabinet. Plenty loud and they stay in tune even after sitting a while without using. Will change all my basses to these strings eventually. Bass strings are not cheap so have to change as I can afford it.

Comments about D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Medium Gauge Bass Strings:

I really like these strings- they give my electric bass a deep, warm acoustic sound... Because they're tape wound, the surface doesn't oxidize and the tone stays consistent.

Only problem I've had is the E string. On my bass it sometimes rubs on one of my pickups, and after a while the string starts unraveling. I still prefer these strings, but it'd be nice if I could order one replacement string instead of an entire new set...

I've always been a flatwound guy. My favorite strings have always been D'Addario Chromes. Thought I'd give these a try,and now have another favorite. Smooth, good tension and great tone on my P-bass. Not quite ready to put them on all my axes, but great vintage tone on the P-bass.

These strings are a lot smoother on the fretting hand fingertips than regular steel strings. The tone is good....a little 'softer' than regular strings.

Comments about D'Addario ETB92 Nylon Tapewound Medium Gauge Bass Strings:

I love the smooth feel of these strings and they don't squeak at all as your fingers glide over them. The tone is brighter than a flat wound and duller than a round wound. I have a set on my G&L L2000 and love the mellower vintage tone. I also use them on my Fender Kingman acoustic bass. They give it a more upright sound and eliminate the squeak that the stock strings have. They are not as loud and they may not be the best choice if you don't play amplified. They fit perfectly on both bases with no adjustment.

I play a Tacoma acoustic Thunder Chief that came with metal strings. Mostly old time folk and country. When I changed them, it was a world of difference No string scratch coming through the amp and when hooked to a sub-woofer, my bass sounds like a big bull fiddle. Lost all my callus', but still real easy to play. When it is hot and sweaty, I put foot powder on my fingers to slide more easily, and with these strings, there is no gumming up like the metal ones. My first set lasted a year and very rarely went out of tune.
