OVERVIEW

More dynamic control and consistent feel. There's a reason they call 'em "balanced".

The EXL115BT Medium Electric Guitar Strings are part of the D'Addario Balanced Tension Series that are comprised of mathematically optimized string gauge combinations, resulting in greater control and playing comfort. Combined with the distinctive bright tone of XL nickel wound strings, each set offers greater dynamic control and a more consistent feel between strings for evenly balanced bending, strumming, fretting, picking, plucking and slapping. Comments about D'Addario EXL115BT Balanced Tension Medium Electric Guitar Strings - Single Pack:

As a Bassist, I've been aware of the concept of "Balanced Tension" Strings for several year, and have moved from pre-packaged sets to making my own "Custom Sets" by purchasing Single Strings and making my own sets for my 4,5 & 6-string Basses. However, on the Electric Guitars I own and use for Songwriting and Continued Education on the Guitar, it took me longer to switch as I was comfortable to my purposefully-uneven "Lite Top/Heavy Bottom" sets. I'm glad to state, though, that I was able to transition to D'Addario's Balanced Tension "10s Set" within a fairly short amount of time. The Balanced Tension of all 6 strings makes more difficult chords easier to fret, and lead playing easier as transitioning from string to string allows for faster playing. Also, when one becomes accustom to string tension being the same for all, "digging in" becomes less of a factor in playing and string breakage lessens. Finally, the unamplified tone and volume of each string is a positive factor in practicing "unplugged" as well as plugged in and at playing volume.

As a Bassist primarily, the "Balanced Tension 10s" do feel light under my fingers which are used to Bass string gauges, and I am going to 1) have my Tech raise the action on my Electric Guitars, and 2) have my Guitar strung with the "Balanced Tension 11s" and tunes to C# re-setup in E-Standard and see if I'll prefer the heavier gauge as I am primarily a Rhythm Guitarist.

Best strings I have ever used in my forty years of playing. The only problem is that they are very expensive.

Comments about D'Addario EXL115BT Balanced Tension Medium Electric Guitar Strings - Single Pack:

I bought some of these for D and Drop C tuning. They feel and sound great! The balanced tension plays well with a Floyd.

I've used GHS Boomers for many years and have switched completely to D'Addario. Good stuff!

Comments about D'Addario EXL115BT Balanced Tension Medium Electric Guitar Strings - Single Pack:

These D'Addario's play as described on the back of the package. I have been playing for a while, and enjoy this brand, and what they have to offer. Make sure you check the back of the D'Addario package, as it will tell you if the strings are "Mellow" to "Super Bright" This way you will not be dissappointed when you put your strings on. I made this mistake for years........untill my tech showed me the scale on the back of the package. Now you and I will know what you are purchasing. These EXL115BT Balanced Tension Medium Electric Guitar Strings are very good strings, if you are looking for a brighter sound.

Comments about D'Addario EXL115BT Balanced Tension Medium Electric Guitar Strings - Single Pack:

I started using these about a year ago on my electrics (Taylor Solidbody and Telecaster). I love the feel of them, but some of my friends say they feel weird (stiff treble strings). To be fair, I play 11s and I think they may just not be used to heavier strings like that. The tone from these is great, and I really like the feel of them. They also don't seem to have as much "g-string twang" as regular tension. If you're a shredder, these are probably going to feel really heavy to you. If you're like me and like a big, fat tone from heavier strings, go for it! Worse case scenario is you're out a couple bills - best case is that you found a new favorite!

Comments about D'Addario EXL115BT Balanced Tension Medium Electric Guitar Strings - Single Pack:

I am a non-professional player and I love to experiment with all things related to guitar so I ordered a set of these. Although they felt a little different at first I find that I really like these strings for tone and feel. I am not a big time bender, so I can't really comment on that, however the strings seem more balanced in tone and I get fuller, more balanced chords. No one thing works for everyone but these are definitely not a gimmick and they are worth a try. I will be reordering these after I use up my 115's!

Comments about D'Addario EXL115BT Balanced Tension Medium Electric Guitar Strings - Single Pack:

I originally brought these strings because the concept of mathematically balanced strings seemed very interesting to me, and boy was it a good choice.
I normally play on 11-52s, which ranged from 17.8-25.6lbs of tension, with the most tension being in the 4th and 5th strings respectively.
This resulted in me having to slightly alter both my picking technique and my fretting technique in order to compensate for the huge difference in tension from the top strings to the bottom strings.
These BTs only have a maximum difference of roughly 2 lbs of difference in tension (19.6-21.1)however.
This allows me to use the same picking technique/fretting pressure for EVERY string without having to worry about putting more "oomph" into my picking on the A and D string.
Bending has indeed become a bit harder on the top strings, but because of that, it feels easier to bend the heavier strings.
Every string now requires the same amount of force to bend, to fret, and to vibrato.
My playing just feels so much smoother now.
Honestly, the best way to describe it is to just say "try 'em and you'll see", and that's exactly what I'll say.
They do take a bit of getting used to, and are a bit tiring when first playing on 'em, but once you get used to 'em, you'll be hooked.
There's just so much more overall control than regular non-balanced sets.
I'll definitely be sticking with these from now on.
This is how strings SHOULD feel.

Comments about D'Addario EXL115BT Balanced Tension Medium Electric Guitar Strings - Single Pack:

Wow... That is honestly all I can say to describe these strings.. They are truly remarkable!

These strings still have the same tone and reliablity as the original D'Addarios but with a completely new feel, so for those of you seeking a different tone than the traditional D'Addarios, you wont find that here. What you will find is a lot more balance, clarity, and blending of your notes during chords and multi-string licks. They have a consistent volume and tension across each string, resulting in a smoother, more controlled sound with more even bends. My playing has never sounded or felt smoother! I wish I would have had these strings all of my life. They have an amazingly smooth feel to them, slicker than the usual D'Addarios.

I will warn you though, the different gauge strings are very different. I felt it the moment I was putting the strings on. The relationship in the size of the strings, like from high E to B for example, is very different and takes some getting used to. The bend is also a lot harder than it used to be, but it is just as hard on every string, so Im sure my hands will get used to it after a little while.

Overall, I absolutely love these new strings! I highly recommend them but you definitely need to give yourself some time to get used to them but the are very different at first!
