I've used D'Addarios 9-42 before, but being a long-time EB user, I decided to buy these strings. The tone is just flat. The bass-strings has a muffled low-end, and the treble strings has too much upper-mids (not in a musically pleasant way). It is sonically unbalanced across the board. It may sound good in certain amps, but for a Marshall or Marshall clones, the strings are just horrid. The strings feels like they're in their breaking point when doing bends. When my amp's master volume is raised up to 4, ear fatigue ensues. D'Addario is definitely not my cup of tea.

Comments about D'Addario EXL120 Nickel Super Light Electric Guitar Strings (10-Pack):

I use D'Addario's on the Gibsons because I love the tone reaction they have with hum buckers, I use Ernie Balls on the Fenders for the same reason for single coil pickups. I can't say enough good things about the magic that happens when D'Addario's are put on a Les Paul, they are a brite, lively string which compliments the tone of hum bucking pickups very nicely. The speed and ease of playing makes your fingers smile!

Comments about D'Addario EXL120 Nickel Super Light Electric Guitar Strings (10-Pack):

Have been using these since the early 90's. I've never been disappointed in the sound or craftsmanship of these strings. They always deliver great tone and fairly long life. I use them on my fixed bridges, (Gibson SG), and Floyd Rose style (Ibanez RG550, 430sii). I also use these on my Strat and they have a much more even tone than the EB's. I've used a lot of different brands over the past 35 years these are by far the best overall.

I started using the XL 09-42 set years ago and its on all of my instruments. Happy with regular strings and over the course of my life I have gotten a lighter touch and sweat less acidic sweat so my strings last longer and break very rarely

I have been using Ernie Ball Slinky on my Tele. Think I have just found a new string. I write and sing Southern Gospel and Country Gospel and do a lot of string bending. These strings allow you to stay in tune while bending the B string without coming out of tune. Musicians Friend is my "Go Too" store for all my music needs. Thanks MF.

Switched to D'Addario strings years ago after realizing they were one of the brands that returned my floating bridge to the same point with every re-string. Was a firm believer in 10's, but now once again having a floating-bridge guitar these 9's are the ticket!
