Comments about D'Addario EXL160-5 XL 5-String Bass Regular/Long String Set:

Used Ernie Ball Power Slinky 5's for a long time, and got a set of these free. Slapped them on my Music Man Stingray 5, and I'm sold: slightly more midrange, and more punch. Sorry Ernie Ball, I'm switching (don't worry, I still playy your basses :-)

Comments about D'Addario EXL160-5 XL 5-String Bass Regular/Long String Set:

pros:bright sounding[almost too bright] finger ease, great pricecons:doesnt stay in tune well, gets really clangy against frets[even after raising bridge]overall, if your lookin to try something new out; go ahead, but these strings will have a tendencie to not sound good while slapping[under any circumstances] good for finger picking and picking, bad for slapping

    awesome strings, BUT BE CAREFUL...

Comments about D'Addario EXL160-5 XL 5-String Bass Regular/Long String Set:

These strings are a definate improvement over my old DR Marcux Miller Signature Series (Medium Guage). I was going for a much thicker guage set so I could sound better in C tunning with the B tuned down to A#.I realy love em, except for one little problem. I own a Rogue LX405 Pro 5-String Bass. It has a body-thru design and the winding on the B and E strings don't quite make it to the end. They needed to be wound just about another 1/2 inch longer. So, be careful...

    Sweet Jesus!

Comments about D'Addario EXL160-5 XL 5-String Bass Regular/Long String Set:

This set of strings brought my bass back to life. I play an Austin Eclipse Pro 5-string. it has active electronics which include twin humbuckers and they are bright. I had strings on it for 2 years and they had gradually died down from their brightness but as soon as I slapped these on, BAM! It sounded like Wooten's bass; crisp and punchy with lots of low end when you need it. Awesome! You needs these strings...

Comments about D'Addario EXL160-5 XL 5-String Bass Regular/Long String Set:

I have used D'Addario strings on both my basses and my classical guitar for over 8 years, and have always been amazed by their quality, durability, and dependability! I just tried the EXL160-5 set (have been using EXL160 for years, and always had to buy a 130 gauge for my low b) and I love them! I cannot even comfortably play on any other gauge of strings! This set holds a tune perfectly, even after lowering both the action AND string tention of my 5-string, my strings are still always in tune when I pick up my bass! These strings are very easy to break in, but still hold awesome tone for an amazingly long time! I will never use anything else but D'Addario!
