I have been playing bass for over half my life, I've tried them all, and these ARE the best strings for the money. I have seen several people bash these strings for their bright tone - If you don't want bright tone, then dont play nickel round-wound strings! I use flat-wounds on my fretless for Jazz, so if you want a warm mellow tone for Jazz- buy flats. You may also find them too bright if you play pick-style (which i don't recommend), or if your bass is passive (which makes it difficult to dial in your tone). Otherwise, these are perfect for any style, and they typically last for several weeks (depending on play-time). Any other string of this quality will cost you at least twice as much. Other brands close to this price will deaden quickly, or will be dead right out of the package!!! (GHS) I teach lessons, tour, and play for hire - so value is very important to me, and these strings have not let me down yet.

These strings are great for slapping, they are very responsive, and yield great harmonics. However, if you are like i am and am looking for a flawless warm finger picking sound, these strings are not for you, they are waaaaaaay too bright and have a very dry tone. On the other hand if you play all rock and slap these strings are just what you are looking for.

Comments about D'Addario EXL160TP Twin-Pack Bass Guitar Strings:

There is comfort in a mass produced string. Pretty consistent and tone is good. I buy these because they are about the most purchased string for bass. I always keep some on hand for my electric basses. Very good, never an issue.

I've been using them for years. Was a time when I experimented with some other brands and had issues with strings being dead right out of the package or they would turn your fingers black after playing them.None of that with D'Addario!!
Love the tone and the Twin Pack is a great bargain!!

The string didn't exactly fit my bass until I clipped off some of the top but it was much of a problem since I measured the length with the ones I took off. Love the tone quality of them and holds on really well. Anyone wanting to change strings soon should try these out. And I got them at a two-for-one deal.

I've been using A'Addario nickel wound strings on my Fender P & J basses for years and it has never failed me. Great tone and they last a long, long time. It took me 6 months to change and I'm not kidding. I've bought the two-pack two weeks ago along with my other stuff, but my strings is backordered. If you're patient to get these sweet strings, order it. If you're in need, don't bother. Get some other D'Addario strings instead, not the two-pack. People here are moving the availabilty date everyday. It'll be a long, long wait.

WOW, these strings are amazing. I'm really picky about tone, life, brightness, etc. and these fit me just right! I've had warwick, elixir, fender, and so many others. I have a warwick double buck 4string and it brings out so much growl it scares me! plus the value is amazing! normally decent strings are more for 1 set. bottom line try these.

very bright tone, good with slap and pick tones. probably the best slap strings i've played, and i've played a lot of strings (ernie-ball slinkys, d'addario chromes, and ghs boomers). only one complaint, fingerstyle tone leaves something left to be desired. they can sound very "mettalic" at times when played with fingers. but they are also very long lasting. Great string, good buy.

I got these strings as well as some Super Slinkys the other day. I put both of them on and i really like both. I do prefer the super slinks over these however. I noticed right away that when i finger pluck these it is very very metalic sounding compaired to the slinks they are a bit harder on the fingers as well.

I haven't used may different kinds of stings, because I only started playing recently, but these seem to be a lot better than anything I have tried so far. They seem to be a pretty decent multipurpose string. They sound good for most styles of music and I get a good tone regardless whether I'm using finger picking, playing slap, or even using a pick. The only time I have gotten bad tone is in those rare few tunings below ?Drop D,? but I think that holds true on any set of strings.Over all, they have been great, and the two-pack is really convenient, and the sealed packaging means you can keep the other set for whenever you need them. Each sting is color-coded at one end, but I really only think that would be useful on guitars.

Top choice strings for roundwounds. Unfortunately they still sqeak too much if you really get into it. I will be looking for a good set of flatwounds to prevent the squeak.
