I was looking for a set of nickle round wound strings to replace the stock strings on my Rickenbacker 4003. This set was close, however I had to purchase the correct A (.75) and G (.55) strings. The ring and sustain are wonderful. Now I can pick up this bass be pleased with the music.
Prior to this I would go to my Gibson Thunderbird which has D'Addario flat wound Chromes medium gauge strings which gives me the tone I want. It's thunderous and I like it!
Each bass has it's own unique qualities for particular music. D'Addario strings cover a wide range of applications so you can't go wrong!

I tried these after hearing several recommendations from friends. So I gave them a shot. Upon putting them on my bass I was not very impressed. No volume to them at all. The low end sounded like mud. Only in midrange did these strings make any kind of agreeable sound. The worst part of it was when after only about a week and a half of playing, I noticed that my D string was producing a high pitched buzz on the open string as well as all frets. After about five minutes I realized that the string was starting to gradually uncoil. The loosened coil was vibrating against the bridge and producing the buzz. Under further inspection I found that the winding on all four strings was very sloppy and it is no surprise that one became undone. The haphazard production and mediocre tone make a terrible buy. I expected more from a company like D?addario.

Comments about D'Addario EXL165TP Twin-Pack Bass Guitar Strings:

I bought these base on the brand an reviews and was surprised how much I disliked them. I have an Epiphone Thunderbird. I usually use Fender 7150M's. These DiAddario's sounds muddy, with no upper end. The bottom booms with no control and the string texture is very noisy. These are not for me.

          My favorite bass strings

          By Kyle T.

Comments about D'Addario EXL165TP Twin-Pack Bass Guitar Strings:

It looks like I will be using these babys all of my life! Why would I not? They're the best. Any kind of music that you can imagine yourself playing, these strings will allow you to go there. No fuss, no muss, just excellent strings.
The features here are the fact that they stay in tune very, very well and stay bright and responsive sounding for a long time. I have been using these for at least a decade now and love 'em to death.
I believe these strings are among the most durable and musical strings available to a bass guy (or gal). I'm 40 now and play blues and old guy rock, but when I was 20 I played thrash metal in several different bands. I used these strings back then and use 'em now. They are the best!
The price is reasonable for what your getting here. You can't buy better strings for this or any other price.

Comments about D'Addario EXL165TP Twin-Pack Bass Guitar Strings:

I went through plenty of different brands of strings over the years. When I finally got around to trying D'Addario, I never looked back. I've been with D'Addario for over 5 years now and swear by them. They're highs are excellent and the lows are booming. D'ADDARIO FOR LIFE!!!!

          Pretty bad.

Comments about D'Addario EXL165TP Twin-Pack Bass Guitar Strings:

I use D'Addario EXL Nickelwounds on my electric guitar and they're awesome, so I figured these strings would be great too. Well, I was wrong. They sound dead, especially the E string, and the deadness is even more obvious if you try to play aggressively. Low end is very muddy. Fortunately," it gets better with higher frequencies but it's still nothing spectacular.
These strings are described as ""world-famous for their distinctive bright tone"". I think not. They're actually dead", muddy and boomy. They made my Precision bass sound like a Thunderbird, in a bad way.
Unfortunately, you don't get double player points with the twin-pack. In fact, you only get 8 just like with one set.

          Worth Every Penny!

Comments about D'Addario EXL165TP Twin-Pack Bass Guitar Strings:

For some reason I though D'Addario's were cheap strings from when I was in music theory and the teacher would use them on his acoustic guitars. Well, I was wrong!I bought this 2-set pack to put strings on a Fender Mexican Jazz that I thought had some serious problems with it. Turns out it was the strings. These babies breathed new life into that Jazz Bass, and man it sounds awesome now. I was geeking out to Rush's "Cygnus X-1" before I knew it!Don't be fooled by the price - these are quality strings.

          A balanced sound

          from PA

Comments about D'Addario EXL165TP Twin-Pack Bass Guitar Strings:

These strings give me a great slap and finger sound. They have a balanced bass, mid,and treble sound. I've played a lot of brands before and these sound the best for just about every style. Great intonation and I never broke one in 22 years and never got a bad one Outstanding quality! And don't forget the price. It's a great deal!

          My return to D'Addario

          By Professor J. Bass

          from Sydney Australia

Comments about D'Addario EXL165TP Twin-Pack Bass Guitar Strings:

from 1980 to 1992 I was Rotosound ONLY. Nothing else would do. I had tried D'Addario once, gee, it must have been about 1983. I was not impressed. From 1992 to 2006 I bought cheap strings - I had found an unknown no frills brand, and they were great! When a friend gave me a free pack of EXL165, I thought 'why not, they're free' - and I was impressed. I couldn't help but wonder if they had changed significantly since '83, or my ears were more finely tuned. I like 'em, I really do. I get the Twin pack which is why I gave full points for value. The twin pack is only slightly more then 2 packs of el-cheapos. Why do I like them? Nice feel, nice tension, good sound and I love the .085 'A' string in this set. I would gladly endorse them ....if I was famous I would love a deal ( hint, hint D'Addario). Anyway, just my thoughts.....give 'em a go
