Warm and bright. Sound great for slap and fingerstyle funk.

These strings have 38 inch winding. Long enough for through body 35 scale Lakland 55-60. Not sure why a previous reviewer had troubles, but they were definitely long enough for me.

Comments about D'Addario EXL170-5SL Regular Light Nickel Wound Super Long Scale 5-String Bass Strings:

These strings have a steel core wrapped in nickel. Most see anything with nickel as being warmer. These are actually clear and bright. I Slapped these on my MTD Heir 5, and right away noticed the difference from my old strings. They do not tear up your hands either.

I feel this gives the best of both worlds. It has a small touch of warmth to it, but still some of that bite from the steel. because its steel wrapped with nickel, it will also be easier on your frets. I recommend this to any bass player who wants something bright and clear, but still has a touch of warmth. They also seem to last quite a while too. These are my go to strings.

Comments about D'Addario EXL170-5SL Regular Light Nickel Wound Super Long Scale 5-String Bass Strings:

I've tried Ernie Ball, DR, & GHS strings before. Those other companies aren't bad, but I just like the price to longevity ratio of D'Addarios best. DRs are just over priced, in my opinion. Good strings, no doubt, but a buit pricey for me. I would recommend D'Addarios to any & everyone!
Great sounding nickel roundwounds! Not too bad on the fingers and easier on your frets. I put these on my G&L L-2500 and they fit perfectly with the strings going thru the body. I had that the regular long scale B & E strings weren't quite long enough for string thru body basses. These are the right fit!
I think the sound & quality are just a little bit better than Ernie Ball strings.
Being that they are just a couple of dollars or so more than Ernie Ball strings, I feel the value is great because I feel D'Addarios last longer. As I've mentioned in other reviews, D'Addario is the only kind of strings I use on my basses.

These strings make my 5 string high-end Laklands sing! I've tried every string maker that makes these sizes (super long) and these can't be beaten in sound, feel and price. And they age very gracefully to boot! I simply will not use any other nickel string than D'Addario!

If you have a 35" scale with strings fed through the back, give these a try. Makes a cheap bass sound pretty good, and fits like a glove.
