Comments about D'Addario EXL170-6 Nickel Round Wound 6 String Long Bass Strings:

The strings arrived today and I wasted no time getting them on my bass. I was replacing old strings of an unknown origin that were on this bass when I acquired it four days ago. The old strings were a lighter gauge and when I put the new ones on I had to adjust the truss rod (which is no big deal and to be expected anyway.)

After a couple hours of playing my right hand finger tips were really feeling it. Not painful, just unpleasant to me. The tone of the nickel, as advertised, was bright and crisp and brought extra clarity to the B string.

I wonder if it's the nickel that makes the strings feel hard and abrasive. I've been playing for 50 years so my fingers are used to what a bass string feels like.I don't think I have nickel strings on any other of my basses. I play 5 hours almost every day on multiple basses and none of them feel like these nickel.

I need to play these some more before I decided whether I like them or not. Sound-wise I like them but on comfort-wise the jury is still out. I hope I end up loving them

I only use D'Addario, bass and guitar both. I am completely satisfied with them in all aspects.

      EXCELLENT ON A FRETLESS

      By N

Comments about D'Addario EXL170-6 Nickel Round Wound 6 String Long Bass Strings:

These sound and feel excellent on my Fender 6 string. I purchased med-light , downsized from the standard medium strings. For my taste, the lighter strings were a good choice.
I purchased a separate B string, went down to a .125 guage, which I am happy with. However, I have consistently had issues with the B string being slightly quieter than the other strings. These are better than the DR strings I had (.130 B), but not as consistent (even) as the Fender set.
I'll stick with these as they are the only available nickel plated in this lighter guage. I really like the high C .032, slightly thicker than most sets (.030), so not as twangy.
I use Fender pure nickel on my fretless 4 string, sure would like to try pure nickel on this 6.
They were all plenty long for through-body stringing on my 34" scale Fender.
Feel very nice & soft. No complaints.
at the average cost per string, it's a good value.

      Not long enough?

Comments about D'Addario EXL170-6 Nickel Round Wound 6 String Long Bass Strings:

So i got these for christmas and tried them on my Rogue 6-string. I was happy with the tone and it sounded great. But the B and E string were too short. The strings as a whole were long enough, but the bottom two got thin too early. Im not sure what to buy if u have my problem. Dont buy if u own my bass.
