Comments about D'Addario EXL170BT Balanced Tension 45-107 Long Scale Electric Bass String Set:

Just put theses on my Fender American Precision. It's pretty cool how more consistent tension across the strings seems to make technique easier. Feels like I don't have to manage technique as carefully or cater to the E string as much.

The volume difference between high and low strings is improved, and the tone is still all there from the bright rounds.

I did not have to alter the nut with this particular gauge set - good thinking, D'Addario, and great strings all around. Curious to try the heavier gauge as well, and if they make a set for 5 string...

Comments about D'Addario EXL170BT Balanced Tension 45-107 Long Scale Electric Bass String Set:

Review ~ Enter D'Addario's new 'balanced tension' set of hex core nickel-plated stainless steel EXL170BT roundwounds. The notion of balanced tension is a good one, and D'Addario's execution is one of excellence. String-To-String balance of: volume; tone, and feel is outstanding! Consistancy to the extreme. Winding is uniform and smooth for reduced string screech.

Tone: Full & Highly Textured. One of the very tightest bottom ends I have ever heard in a roundwound. Large. Big. Huge. Vibrant. Aggressive low-mid growl. Fat meaty mids. Visiously snarling high-mids. Soaring highs that are light and airy with crystalline clarity & high definition.

Attack: with a pick = WWIII! Great Slappers. Fine for finger plucking too, with good solid 'umph' punch.

Overview: Well made. Plays in quickly. Holds tune well. Good feel. Excellent full range of tone. No annoying unmusical tin can ringy-zingy wangy-twangy clanky-wanky nonsense.

Comments about D'Addario EXL170BT Balanced Tension 45-107 Long Scale Electric Bass String Set:

I normally use EXL165 Nickel on my Spector, so while looking to buy some I ran across these. After putting them on, I went to practice and instantly got compliments on my tone! Nice beefy lows with smooth highs and well balanced mids. I think there is something to this balanced tension, I find it reflects in playing more evenly, my bass and higher notes maintain a level output, hard to explain, it just equals easier to play. I like'um, I'm buying another set for my backup bass, paying more will not get you better strings. I highly recommend.
