Comments about D'Addario EXP Coated Phosphor Bronze Mandolin Strings:
EXP's are rapidly my favorite mandolin string. True, they have a coating on them, and they are a _little_ less bright than "non-coated strings", but they sound less like new strings when you first put them on too. New strings have always sounded a little harsh to me (in 30+ years of playing the instrument), until they get broken in a bit. EXP's sound like a set of non-coated strings do after they have been played a while. The great thing about them, is that they retain that same sound for hour after hour of playing time. Normally, non-coated strings on my mando start to loose their tone after approx 20 hours of playing time...they go kinda dead sounding, and are hard to tune. The EXP's don't experience that decline in performance until MANY times that amount of playing. You'll change them just because you're tired of looking at them, before they loose their tone. Try a set...you'll see.
