Extended life and brilliant tone.
- D'Addario: The EXP Story
Gauges - .045 .065 .080 .100 .130.
EXP170-S 5-string bass strings provide longer life and increased durability coupled with the brightness, clarity and sensitivity you've come to expect from D'Addario strings. Here is how they work: An ultra-fine layer of EXP coating is bonded to the phosphor bronze wrap wire which is then wound onto the hex-shaped core wire. The result is a built-in barrier against the corrosion and wear that can quickly sap the life out of your strings and your sound. And since the EXP coating is cross-linked to the wrap wire prior to winding, the strings sound fresh and bright. New-string tone lasts 3 to 4 times longer than traditional strings.
D'Addario is the world's largest manufacturer of strings for musical instruments. Many top guitarists won't play any other brand. Regardless of your playing style, D'Addario has a set that's right for you.

Comments about D'Addario EXP170-5 EXP Coated Soft 5-String Bass Strings:
I play bass at church on Sundays. I've used Half-Rounds for a long time and have had the set I just replaced on my bass for about 6 years, and realized they needed to be replaced. I was reading a discussion about coated strings on the Churchbass forum that made me interested. I was a little apprehensive because I had tried coated strings on my acoustic guitar and didn't like the plasticky feel. But these were a pleasant surprise. First, after changing I realized how dead my old strings really were. Second, the feel was very much like regular wound strings without the plasticky-ness. Third, the tone was deep and growly, just like I like it. Unless something happens to radically change my mind, these are my strings from now on.
