Been playing mandolin in bluegrass bands for 30 years and have used lots of different strings. These are my regular strings until I am presented with a better value. I play an early 80's Randy Wood mandolin and love the sound, especially after the strings have deadened a bit... then I'm good to go for a month or more, depending on how many gigs I play.

Comments about D'Addario J74 Phosphor Bronze Medium Mandolin Strings:

When I bought my mandolin, I put coated strings on it. It sounded like it had a wet towel over it. Since I've been using the D'Adarrio's it sounds like what I hear on the CD's. It's full sounding, yet balanced. You don't hear one note above another. They lasted 2 months last time. It would've been longer, but I let someone else play it and the acid in their fingers killed them.

Comments about D'Addario J74 Phosphor Bronze Medium Mandolin Strings:

I had the option of lots of different companies to go with to restring my new mandolin, and I chose this brand because I have found they produce consistent, strong, solid products.

I was given a Chinese built mid-model mandolin, and the stock strings were beyond terrible. It made sense to put the good performance strings on the instument, but to not go overboard with high end.

The sound was immediately better by putting these strings on. Putting this good grade and high quality string maximized whatever voice I will get out of this entry level instrument.

I am very pleased with the result.
