All the features of the NS Mini, and more, but in an even smaller size.

The NS Micro offers improved accuracy, faster response, expanded calibration range, visual metronome mode and an improved ratchet design. A highly sensitive piezo transducer and easy-to-read multi-color backlit display allow smooth and highly accurate tuning in noisy, dim or well-lit environments while the micro design and reversible screen allow the tuner to hide effortlessly behind or mount on the front side of the headstock allowing the tuner to remain clamped to the instrument inside most cases when stored. A 360-degree swivel mechanism and adjustable padded clamp offer optimal viewing angles and maximum positioning flexibility. As a result, the NS Micro is equally at home on left- and right-handed instruments as well as on small and large headstocks, making it an ideal choice for the widest variety of players and instruments. The NS Micro is powered by a readily available CR2032 battery (included) and provides maximum battery life utilizing an auto-off function, shutting the tuner off automatically after several minutes from power up.

I ordered some more PlanetWaves headstock tuners and these came instead---they're apparently newer/updated models. Still compact, unobtrusive and accurate. The compact design might limit visibility with some placements but it surely contributes to keeping the unit out of harm's way and accidental damage. Small enough to leave on you axe when you put it to bed in its case. They work just as well as the original version with theses added/updated features: (1) Metronome (visual) function, (2)Display "flip" function (useful!), and (3) an easier to use clamp/clip. The battery compartment is, however, more difficult to open than the original version---you may need a pair of needle-nose pliers to apply the proper amount of squeeze and pull to release the battery holder. The good news is that I've been using my original ones daily, for months, and have yet to replace the battery.

This is the first tuner if this type I've used and it works great in the home or where ever there isn't much ambient noise, but it's definitely not a good stage tuner. It picks up every noise on stage, which makes for a difficult time trying to retune during a performance. I found myself having to wait for a quiet moment then hurriedly tuning whichever string was out. For home use, it works well, just not on stage.

      Not great for full-band performances

Comments about D'Addario NS Micro Headstock Tuner:

I've been experimenting with different clip-on tuners recently to try and find one that could possibly stand up to full-band rehearsals and live shows. Unfortunately, this one is not it.

Our drummer is particularly loud and this tuner doesn't even pick up notes properly at practice; leaving shows far out of the question.

I think I may just go back to using my BOSS Chromatic Tuner and call it a day. These tuners are great for solo practicing but, aside from that-- pretty useless in my opinion.

Not going to bother returning for how inexpensive it is. Maybe I'll use it for my acoustic.

I was looking for a compact clip-on tuner that would detect 5-string bass notes quickly. I also have an older Snark SN-1 I also like that has a nice display but is slower to detect notes on bass (good on guitar). This NS-micro works as well as advertised!

Comments about D'Addario NS Micro Headstock Tuner:

I have two of these - one mounted on a PRS Orianthi SE and one on an Epiphone G400. I convinced myself it works best mounted on the top (low E) part of the headstock, just above the nut. This seems to give it the best chance to pick up the lower frequency strings. Screen is plenty visible - color and size are not a problem. I did have one instance where the screen was very dim, but I cycled it off and on and it came back just fine. (Hopefully not indicative of a recurring problem, but we'll see.) Best result is to pluck a string and let it ring for a second. You'll have to decide if that's too long for you. The plastic construction is a bit disconcerting, but so far hasn't been a problem. I can definitely see if you're not careful and rip it off, it would likely snap the clamp rendering it unusable. But this thing is so small and compact once it's on you'll have little need to take it off other than to change the battery. Battery life (out of the box) was about a month for me [this seems to be the biggest variance among reviewers, so who knows?] It sits about as deep as the headstock tuners do, so it shouldn't be a problem fitting into anyone's case while attached. By the way, the screen does flip - there's a fairly obvious button that does nothing but flip the display, so for the guy who says it doesn't flip, I don't know what to tell you.

This is the best piece of equipment I've bought this year. It is as close to perfect as I could ask for. It is easy to use, changes strings automatically, turns itself off, is small and out of the way, and works GREAT! Excellent for acoustic practice or stage use. I recommend it to anyone for acoustic guitar, although it is probably also good for electric guitar.

Great tuner, I've tried it on mandolin, guitar, bass, and it works well on each. Small, so it doesn't take much room, but the display is easy to read. You can also flip the display depending on which side of the headstock you want to place it (front or back) and because of its small size it's inconspicuous. It's also more accurate than other tuners I have.
