All the features of the NS Mini, and more, but in an even smaller size.

The NS Micro offers improved accuracy, faster response, expanded calibration range, visual metronome mode and an improved ratchet design. A highly sensitive piezo transducer and easy-to-read multi-color backlit display allow smooth and highly accurate tuning in noisy, dim or well-lit environments while the micro design and reversible screen allow the tuner to hide effortlessly behind or mount on the front side of the headstock allowing the tuner to remain clamped to the instrument inside most cases when stored. A 360-degree swivel mechanism and adjustable padded clamp offer optimal viewing angles and maximum positioning flexibility. As a result, the NS Micro is equally at home on left- and right-handed instruments as well as on small and large headstocks, making it an ideal choice for the widest variety of players and instruments. The NS Micro is powered by a readily available CR2032 battery (included) and provides maximum battery life utilizing an auto-off function, shutting the tuner off automatically after several minutes from power up.

I ordered some more PlanetWaves headstock tuners and these came instead---they're apparently newer/updated models. Still compact, unobtrusive and accurate. The compact design might limit visibility with some placements but it surely contributes to keeping the unit out of harm's way and accidental damage. Small enough to leave on you axe when you put it to bed in its case. They work just as well as the original version with theses added/updated features: (1) Metronome (visual) function, (2)Display "flip" function (useful!), and (3) an easier to use clamp/clip. The battery compartment is, however, more difficult to open than the original version---you may need a pair of needle-nose pliers to apply the proper amount of squeeze and pull to release the battery holder. The good news is that I've been using my original ones daily, for months, and have yet to replace the battery.

This is the first tuner if this type I've used and it works great in the home or where ever there isn't much ambient noise, but it's definitely not a good stage tuner. It picks up every noise on stage, which makes for a difficult time trying to retune during a performance. I found myself having to wait for a quiet moment then hurriedly tuning whichever string was out. For home use, it works well, just not on stage.

Working Blugrass musician here; at first best banjo tuner I've used; however with instrument in playing position the display is too dim and too small to read. Anywhere I turn the tuner same results. Could only read under low light conditions. Not for me.

This is my third tuner. First was one of those big sit on the table or your lap kind, i then got a snark which is a good tuner but i did not like leaving it on my guitar at all times, because it is a little unsightly. This one is awesome, because it is not only accurate, but easy to see the display, and to use. And it is pretty much invisible. Get one you will not be disappointed.

Comments about D'Addario NS Micro Headstock Tuner:

I own several clip-on type tuners, but I like this one the best. It is easy to read in any lighting conditions, it includes a built-in metronome, and it seems to be pretty accurate. I checked it with my Sonic Research ST-200 strobe tuner, a great stompbox tuner BTW, which is accurate to ± O.O2 cents (the closest competition is accurate to ± 1.0 cent; a hundred fold difference) and I found them to be close enough that my ears can't discern a difference and I've been blessed with both great hearing and perfect pitch.

I keep them on my guitars' headstocks full time. It fits in guitar cases with plenty of room to spare while still attached. BEWARE, however, of doing this on instruments with nitrocellulose finishes. The rubbery surface that can cause hazing of nitro finishes is only on the part that contacts the back side of the headstock, so if you're not too particular about a very small area on the back of your headstock, it could be kept on nitro finishes full time, too.

These things are really small and as light as a feather, with a bright display that is simple to read. I've used these under a few different lighting conditions and none of them diminished the readability of the display.

One more caveat: the plastic lever that is used to adjust the opening and closing of the jaws on the clamp looks and feels like it is easy to brake if you pull on it. The lever has to be pushed in, not pulled out, to adjust the jaws to fit the depth of your headstock. If you forget this and pull on the lever, I think it would break easily.

The directions for using this thing are extremely spare and may be nearly inadequate for some. The operation of everything except the lever is reasonably intuitive. I didn't even read the instructions until I them for a month or so.

Comments about D'Addario NS Micro Headstock Tuner:

This micro tuner fits easily and goes right to work. I have an earlier model that indicates pitch only and that is more than enough. The new model has a metronome function and I find that unnecessary, I have a metronome that beeps fairly loudly and that is easier to use.

I ordered two tuners and one of them was not functioning. The staff at musicians friend was most helpful in sending me a return postage address label. I received the replacement (that works just fine)in just two days. Wonderful!
