OVERVIEW

Re-engineered to be stronger for enhanced output.

You've spent hours and hours researching, eventually purchasing a guitar that looks and feels right to you. Perfect weight, neck shape, body style, neck profile, and electronics. But what does all that time spent mean if you don't have the right strings? That combo of tonewoods and your preamp's special bells and whistles just won't reach their full potential. While you may enjoy your sound at first, you're really cheating your fingers and ears in the long run. And let's face it, most guitars come with average strings that just give it just enough to entice. They aren't meant to be long-term sound solutions. That's where D'Addario NYXL strings come in.

D™Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend farther, sing louder, and stay in tune better than almost any other strings. Envisioned, perfected, and manufactured by D™Addario in New York, this newly engineered, break-resistant high-carbon steel core and plain steel alloy delivers a whole new level of freedom, confidence, and power. NYXL' provide more strength and 131% more tuning stability by utilizing a completely reinvented wire drawing process and revolutionary corrosion-resistant tin coating application. The reformulated nickel-plated string windings have greater magnetic properties resulting in higher output and enhanced mid-range frequency response for more presence and crunch. The NYXL1046 set is designed with the most popular string gauges for its ideal combination of flexibility and tone.

The NYXL Light Electric Guitar Strings come in gauges .10 - .46.

FEATURES
  • Features D'Addario's exclusive revolutionary high carbon steel alloy
  • Offers more strength, break-resistance, and improved tuning stability compared to traditional nickel wound strings
  • Wound strings contain enhanced mid-range frequency response in the 1-3.5kHz range - boosting presence and crunch
  • Offers an ideal combination of flexibility and tone: Plain Steel .010, .013, .017, Nickel Wound .026, .036, .046

I also have been a beta tester. Used to 9 gauge sets, with e switched to 10 and b to 12, D'addario sent a 10 gauge set. I used it, since I had upped my e and b sting anyway. This set of strings was the best thing that was ever on my guitar. The step from b to g string was not audible in the normal way - that the g string was much louder, the tone was perfectly balanced over the entire set (I play a Guild S300 with Seymour Duncan Stagmags and Jimmi Page's Les Paul switching). After four months of heavy giging I exchanged the strings for a regular D'addario EXL 110, just because I thought it was high time to do so (not because they sounded any worse than in the beginning). I should have left them on. After more than four month they still sounded MUCH better than a brand new set of EXL110s that I will use up now :-(. So I calculated: instead of changing strings every two months, I could change every 4-5 months. AND have a much better, perfectly balanced sound. It's just a no-brainer. Those are THE Strings. At least for me.

I've never been head over heals for D'addario, but I heard about the hype on these and figured that I'd give them a shot...as per usual with me, haha...I put them on my Jagmaster with a JB bridge before a show. I did my usual stretching/break-in with them, and they broke in faster than most strings that I have played, so that was a plus, but when I played them at the show, they were very bright and chimey....Too much so for my taste. Given, I really put them to the test and hammered them really hard, but they did not break, so that is another plus. I feel like these would be great for jazz/blues, Teles and Strats, but not for heavier rock. If you are looking for something strong, very bright, and need something that will break in ASAP, these are for you, but if you just want something that is fuller, has better tone, and can deal with an extra 10min break in period, look elsewhere. For what they are, I really don't think that they are worth double or even triple the price for what I pay for strings. Back to Dunlop for this guy.

NYXL didn't work

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I put these on a guitar that I've owned for 40 years. I've never had a problem with his guitar staying in tune. I can't explain it, but the strings would not stay in tune. I took them to two band practices and They never did settle down. Finally, I gave up. The strings were on my guitar for a total of about a week and they just did not work.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I have been playing D'Addario coated strings since 2002. Coated strings were a bit new back then and I lived in a very humid place. At the Telluride Bluegrass Festival that year I went into the vendor tent thinking I would get a coated set. The Elixir people wanted silly money for a set, but as I was leaving their booth, a cat across the aisle said "here give these a try and I don't want your money, ours strings are better, I believe you will agree". I did, I did, they are and I have not ever looked back (tried Elixirs when they came on a new Taylor my sweetheart bought me one year for my birthday, Meh!). I was able to join the beta test group for D'Addario and got my first set of these that way. They are everything their original extended play strings were and more. I highly recommend extended play strings and D'Addario makes the best, IMHO.
I believe the extended life, strength and consistent tone more than make up for the small difference in price. The great tone is gravy! Get one set and give them a shot. Your mileage may vary, but I love'em.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

Tried these strings on one of my electrics. Was very impressed with the sound and durability. They last long and do not go out of tune when bending strings or using a tremolo bar. Bought more for my other electrics. Little more expensive than another brand I was using, but worth it.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I am by NO MEANS much of a guitar player. A drummer of 25+ years and just got some axes recently. After going thru many other types of strings, i noticed that some would break on my SGJ regularly (wretched poor playing style of course). I also was getting about 2 weeks or so on a set of strings before they would rust to the pont they hurt to play. My 80% humidity home doesnt help. I tried coated strings, but i just dont care for the feel of them. I finally decided to try a set of NYXL to replace some XL's. I marked the calendar as usual, and am now getting 4-6 weeks before ANY noticeable discoloration. I also put these on my fender with Whammy, and it amazingly stays in tune even after i totally abuse the guitar. These strings seem to sing very clear and last quite a long time. I did the math, and not counting down time to install, I am still saving money and playing on great strings everytime. I am a creature of habit, so now i use these on ALL my electric guitars. If there was a downside, perhaps the high E feels a tad sharp on newbie hands, that ape grip a neck for string slides. Havent cut myself yet, and a touch of FF beforehand seems to keep it totally tolerable. These strings totally eat picks, but who doesnt like to have an excuse to toss and buy more picks?

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been using D'Addarios longer than I shall admit. But I'm looking at an old box that has over 200 of the old player's points packages I got before I switched over to boxes of ten (which I don't save). For the last seven years, I figure I get 9-12 gig hours out of a set before tuning becomes too problematic. At that point, on an SG and LP, I think a reasonably significant dent occurs in the D and G strings where they cross the nut and angle back to the tuners, and the strings just don't want to slip back and forth in response to turning the tuners. This is not such an issue with a Fender nut, but I don't play a Fender for three sets in a row, so I have no data. The strings that come off my Fenders are generally more worn than those coming off the Gibsons, so the straighter angle to the tuners must play a part.

              1. These strings are kinda' cool because they sound good and feel good. I gave this first set 12 gig hours (4 gigs), and that's when the tuning problems became the usual PITA. I even loosened the D and G and put lubricant on the nut, but those two strings seemed to hang-up as usual in the nut. The backside of the D string pitted out at the same rate as the nickel 10-46, 10-52, and SS 10-46 sets I regularly use. But, the high E was less dented than usual. The G and B strings were practically pristine, other than the dents from the nut and the saddle. The low E and A were still in good shape with minor denting on the backside.

              2. These strings seem to have more sustain than nickel and SS. Their toughness may be their resistance to breakage, but they are not so super-tough they won't get dented by the frets, but I'll grant it's an improvement with the exception of the D string.

              3. I think you could play a set a long time before you break one. I don't know how long they'd resist corrosion, but I have a low-end guitar stashed out of town I play for a few days a year, and the coated series has endured beautifully, though still pitting on the back

Let me start by saying I don't write reviews. I'm too lazy. Let that be a testament to how awesome these strings are. I really only tried them because I needed to buy more strings and I'd heard these were supposed to be the "best strings ever". I never thought there'd be such a difference in clarity. These strings are the best strings ever. I tried them and now I'm hooked, I'll never go back.
