OVERVIEW

Re-engineered to be stronger for enhanced output.

You've spent hours and hours researching, eventually purchasing a guitar that looks and feels right to you. Perfect weight, neck shape, body style, neck profile, and electronics. But what does all that time spent mean if you don't have the right strings? That combo of tonewoods and your preamp's special bells and whistles just won't reach their full potential. While you may enjoy your sound at first, you're really cheating your fingers and ears in the long run. And let's face it, most guitars come with average strings that just give it just enough to entice. They aren't meant to be long-term sound solutions. That's where D'Addario NYXL strings come in.

D™Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend farther, sing louder, and stay in tune better than almost any other strings. Envisioned, perfected, and manufactured by D™Addario in New York, this newly engineered, break-resistant high-carbon steel core and plain steel alloy delivers a whole new level of freedom, confidence, and power. NYXL' provide more strength and 131% more tuning stability by utilizing a completely reinvented wire drawing process and revolutionary corrosion-resistant tin coating application. The reformulated nickel-plated string windings have greater magnetic properties resulting in higher output and enhanced mid-range frequency response for more presence and crunch. The NYXL1046 set is designed with the most popular string gauges for its ideal combination of flexibility and tone.

The NYXL Light Electric Guitar Strings come in gauges .10 - .46.

FEATURES
  • Features D'Addario's exclusive revolutionary high carbon steel alloy
  • Offers more strength, break-resistance, and improved tuning stability compared to traditional nickel wound strings
  • Wound strings contain enhanced mid-range frequency response in the 1-3.5kHz range - boosting presence and crunch
  • Offers an ideal combination of flexibility and tone: Plain Steel .010, .013, .017, Nickel Wound .026, .036, .046

I also have been a beta tester. Used to 9 gauge sets, with e switched to 10 and b to 12, D'addario sent a 10 gauge set. I used it, since I had upped my e and b sting anyway. This set of strings was the best thing that was ever on my guitar. The step from b to g string was not audible in the normal way - that the g string was much louder, the tone was perfectly balanced over the entire set (I play a Guild S300 with Seymour Duncan Stagmags and Jimmi Page's Les Paul switching). After four months of heavy giging I exchanged the strings for a regular D'addario EXL 110, just because I thought it was high time to do so (not because they sounded any worse than in the beginning). I should have left them on. After more than four month they still sounded MUCH better than a brand new set of EXL110s that I will use up now :-(. So I calculated: instead of changing strings every two months, I could change every 4-5 months. AND have a much better, perfectly balanced sound. It's just a no-brainer. Those are THE Strings. At least for me.

I too got these to beta test. I often run 10xls but replace the high e with an 11. This helps prevent volume loss of the e compared to the g and b. at 1st these 10's sound great, and the e was very even volume with the g and b. but alas they sound dull and dead just as fast as regular xls, so I can't justify 3x the price. Bummer I thought they had something at first.

I got these as a D'addario Beta tester so I got them free (thanks !!) but I took them off my Tele same day I put them on. Some might like them but too stiff . I regularly use D'addario strings & equipment but these weren't for me. Just a warning.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I have gone thru several sets of the NYXLs and I can say that they do last longer than the regular D'Addario XL. Now do they last three times as long (seeing that they are nearly three times more expensive) as the regular XLs? No, but what I do like about these is the tone and let's face it in the music business tone is everything. The tone I get from the NYXL is more of a biting midrange with more stable lows. It is like having a heavier set of strings without the stiffness. Sometimes I put upwards of 20 to 30 hours a week on my guitar and these string can take it without suffering a lot of tone loss. They tune up nicely, and after normal break in stretching, they stay in tune very well, and I have yet to break one.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I've tried a ton of strings over the past two years. Right when I feel like I've landed on something solid, it somehow disappoints me. I saw the ad from NAMM on these strings and thought I'd give a try. I put them on my PRS SE Custom 24 and after tuning up and giving them a little break in time...they did not disappoint. These strings feel awesome. They also sound very good tonally. They bend easily and feel great to the touch. I've had problems in the past with different brands busting on me. And because I have a floating trem, the strings I was using got out of tune after one song sometimes. These took a beating after a few songs and stayed in tune. They seem to be tough as nails. So far so good. Hopefully they'll last as long as they boast. Glad I bought!

I've always been in the crosshairs between D'Addario and Ernie Ball. I think both of them deliver great products on their own and I constantly switch back and forth depending on the guitar I'm using. However, with this set, they just NAILED IT! The instant I strummed the first chord with these strings, I almost fainted! The punch is ACTUALLY there! They feel bigger, and enough mid-punch to make the guitar cut through the mix. Cleans sound sparkly and overdrives just roar! Because of the price, I don't think I'll be able to use them on a regular basis (like the XLs) but definitely for session work I will have a few around.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

A few months back, I was asked to beta test these strings. When they finally arrived and I put them on, they were amazing.

There is an almost gritty feel to them where you can feel them grip your fingers back.

Unplugged, they were a bit louder than my regular strings (Fender Bullets, Gibson Vintage). Once I plugged in I was blown away with the tone; bright, loud, and vibrant.

In my hunt over the years for a quality set of strings, I had a fondness for the Ernie Ball Cobalt strings. The only problem was I would break strings more often. Great tone though.

The XL's remind me of the Cobalts a bit in tone, but they are more durable. The initial beta set stayed on my guitar for a couple of months.

I recently added a Line 6 JTV-59P to my collection and these strings work well on it. They are the recommended size 10-46, and they work well with all of the guitar models.

I think I've found my new strings.

I got a set of these to beta test a couple of months ago. These strings are really a different animal altogether. They are firmer than the usual strings I play (Fender 250L, GHS Boomers)which was different for me but they don't "accidentally bend" either so the notes are right on. But the biggest thing is the sound! Tonally, there is much, much more there. It's like going from a scratchy transistor radio to a high end stereo. After a couple of months of light playing (they're on my Tele), the sound is still there. I plan to get more.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I was involved in a theater show that ran about 60 shows in just over two months. The house paid for string changes so the price didn't really matter to me much, and my local retailer/guitar builder friend highly recommended I try these. I immediately loved the way they felt. They seemed to have a nice elasticity to them and broke in quickly. I was also amazed at how tight they stayed in tune. At first I was reluctantly changing strings every 2-3 shows - since they seemed like they didn't really need to be changed. And eventually I got to a point that I was so surprised about their performance - I wanted to see just how long I could go without changing them at all. After about 20 consecutive shows I finally changed them just because I felt bad, not because they stopped doing what they needed to do! They stayed in tune, the tone was still bright and when I finally removed the set after all those shows I even noticed the string 'dents' on the fret side were not nearly as pronounced as previous strings that I would normally change after maybe two shows. I even had an old set in my case to prove it! I am completely sold on these strings, totally worth the money. Fantastic product and ITS ABOUT TIME!! :)

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

After Ernie Ball released it's COBALT brand strings, I was curious about how much better these 'Super Premium' type strings could really be. I usually use the D'Addario brand, so when they came out with their own premium string, I decided to give 'em a try. I put them on one of my best guitars (a 96' Hamer Studio w/ Duncan JB & 59 pickups installed) and I did notice a difference. The highs had a pleasant 'zing' to them and the lows had a rewarding 'thwack. It seems to me like the alloys used in the strings are more magnetically conductive, making them livelier. They seem to stay in tune a liitle better than the standard XL strings that i've been using for years. And they actually feel better to me as well...this is harder to explain this in words...but they have a great tactile feel under my fingertips. I have yet to see if they last any longer than the standard strings. Now the bad news. They cost three times as much as standard D'Addario XL's. I myself, personally, just can't justify paying the price of the super premiums and installing them on all my guitars. If these were DOUBLE the price I might consider using them exclusively. I estimate about a 20 to 30% increase in tone and playability...not a 300% increase. I would recommend buying just one set to start off with and see if they are for you...everybody's different. Don't get me wrong, these are fantastic strings, and if I were an artist with an endorsement deal with D'Addario, I would certainly ask for these strings. But being just an 'average joe' semi-pro player, I'll probably just buy them every now and again for studio work when the sound of the guitar, and the strings on it, are really under a microscope.

I tried these in a LP and a Tele. Nice chimey tone. Very consistent up and down the fretboard. I'm not buying the comments that they are higher tension or hard to bend. Quite the opposite actually. You can bend away with confidence and they keep consistent tonally and stay in tune very nicely. Allow more stretching time when new.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I got to Beta Test these, too (thanks!). Not knowing what guitar to choose, I put them on my 1965 Strat. Normally I use Boomer 11's on it, so I can get a little more "push" into my bends. I immediately liked the advertised strength and resistance of the strings, especially the "G" string, where I often insert a wider radius string (22). To my surprise, the stock 3rd string worked just fine. Now, I can't tell you if these strings are actually stronger, because at age 67, I don't break a lot of strings. I do notice greater stability in the ring the notes make when I play. They don't sound as bright and shiny as Boomers, but they sounded full and had great presence through my 1964 Twin. I bought another pair to put on another guitar with humbuckers and a shorter Gibson scale length to get an overview there. Like another reviewer, I have a PRS SE or I could use my Les Paul. I'll send in another review when I get the new string set on. But so far I'm very impressed. As to string life, it is still too soon for me to see a drop off in tonality, but I think they'll live longer than Boomers (which aren't bad).

I was also a beta tester. I was very wary of these strings, as I took a long time to settle on the D'addario XL's that I always use. They are a little brighter than those strings, but in a good way. Definitely stay in tune well once stretched. Have not broken one yet. They claim they don't go dead as quickly, and that seems to be the case so far. Still want to try them on my other guitars.

Comments about D'Addario NYXL1046 Light Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been using D'Addarios longer than I shall admit. But I'm looking at an old box that has over 200 of the old player's points packages I got before I switched over to boxes of ten (which I don't save). For the last seven years, I figure I get 9-12 gig hours out of a set before tuning becomes too problematic. At that point, on an SG and LP, I think a reasonably significant dent occurs in the D and G strings where they cross the nut and angle back to the tuners, and the strings just don't want to slip back and forth in response to turning the tuners. This is not such an issue with a Fender nut, but I don't play a Fender for three sets in a row, so I have no data. The strings that come off my Fenders are generally more worn than those coming off the Gibsons, so the straighter angle to the tuners must play a part.

                                1. These strings are kinda' cool because they sound good and feel good. I gave this first set 12 gig hours (4 gigs), and that's when the tuning problems became the usual PITA. I even loosened the D and G and put lubricant on the nut, but those two strings seemed to hang-up as usual in the nut. The backside of the D string pitted out at the same rate as the nickel 10-46, 10-52, and SS 10-46 sets I regularly use. But, the high E was less dented than usual. The G and B strings were practically pristine, other than the dents from the nut and the saddle. The low E and A were still in good shape with minor denting on the backside.

                                2. These strings seem to have more sustain than nickel and SS. Their toughness may be their resistance to breakage, but they are not so super-tough they won't get dented by the frets, but I'll grant it's an improvement with the exception of the D string.

                                3. I think you could play a set a long time before you break one. I don't know how long they'd resist corrosion, but I have a low-end guitar stashed out of town I play for a few days a year, and the coated series has endured beautifully, though still pitting on the back

These strings are like the original XLs but they have a little extra life to them. They seem to be a little smoother and bendy. Just slightly though. I stretched them as I put them on and they stayed in tune throught he first gig, no problem.

I've never been head over heals for D'addario, but I heard about the hype on these and figured that I'd give them a shot...as per usual with me, haha...I put them on my Jagmaster with a JB bridge before a show. I did my usual stretching/break-in with them, and they broke in faster than most strings that I have played, so that was a plus, but when I played them at the show, they were very bright and chimey....Too much so for my taste. Given, I really put them to the test and hammered them really hard, but they did not break, so that is another plus. I feel like these would be great for jazz/blues, Teles and Strats, but not for heavier rock. If you are looking for something strong, very bright, and need something that will break in ASAP, these are for you, but if you just want something that is fuller, has better tone, and can deal with an extra 10min break in period, look elsewhere. For what they are, I really don't think that they are worth double or even triple the price for what I pay for strings. Back to Dunlop for this guy.

Normally, I don't like paying any more than five for a set of strings, but I was talked into trying these strings instead of the regular XL's. I figured 'what the hell?'. Once I put a set of 10-46's on my Jackson, I noticed right away that I would never buy any other set of string so long as I live! I play hard, I play aggressive, and I play every day. The tone from these strings is as clear as the day I put them on two months ago, no dullness or wear at all. They bend real easy and far, but without falling out of tune every time you do. I find that sometimes they feel like they're not even there while playing. I love these strings!

These things are legit. Im very skeptical when it comes to companies acting like they reinvented the wheel like a certain company adding cobalt to the low 3 strings. These things really do perform better than any other string Ive used. Ive strictly been a GHS user for about 13 years or so because of their consistency and tone. To me GHS just has a really balanced, not too twangy or tinny sound. They also rarely break. They also have a fuller sound than other strings that Ive tried. These string, by comparison, have a brighter, chimier sound to them. The definitely seem a little louder. They REALLY DO stay in tune much better than anything Ive used before, and I cannot emphasize this enough. I'm currently trying them on a 2013 PRS custom 24 with a trem and even through all the trem use, they stay in nearly perfect tune for days. This is strange to me because my PRS is fairly easily affected by temperature change and these strings dont really have an issue with that. Chords also rings out A LOT better than the other strings Ive tried. You can really hear every note more clearly because the high strings dont deaden very easily so the low strings aren't overpowering. They also dont seem to wear down as fast either, they're keeping their original tone from the day I put them on much better than other strings. Ive had them on for a few weeks now. This was a huge issue when I tried the cobalt strings. I thought they felt different and kinda liked how bendy they seemed, but they died SUPER quick to where they acoustically sounded like 10 year old strings and I eventually started hating the feel. They almost seemed to hold rust and grime much worse than anything else Ive ever used They were terrible and a huge let down. These are definitely different. I highly recommend giving them a test run.
