OVERVIEW

No need to guess, no need for a mess. Get accurate, hassle free humidity control.

Planet Waves, in collaboration with Humidipak®, brings you the first two-way humidity controller that maintains a constant 45% relative humidity level. The patented Planet Waves Humidipak completely eliminates all the guesswork and anxiety of maintaining your musical instrument's proper humidity level. No more guessing if or when to refill the humidifier and worrying about drips or mess. Unlike all refillable humidifiers, the Humidipak acts as a gauge because it provides true "two-way" purified humidity control. It adds or reduces moisture only as needed to maintain 45% RH - the ideal climate for wooden instruments such as acoustic guitars.

Just place 2 packets in the double pouch. Put the double pouch over your D and G strings and let it hang down into the soundhole. Place the third packet under your guitar's headstock in its case. Close the case and you're done. The packet will last anywhere from 2-6 months, depending on the humidity where you are. When the packet become firm, discard and replace. The Humidipak humidity controller is as simple as that!

FEATURES
  • True two-way Humidity control
  • Maintains constant 45%RH within instrument case
  • No water, no drips, no mess

Protect the wood of your treasured instruments from splitting and cracking with this ingenious system! Put it in the cart!

This product is sweet if you know how to do it correctly. I live in Colorado where it is very dry and I have had this product for a year and the gel packs are not dried up yet. Here is what to do.... Buy this product and a regular humidifier. I lay this product over the strings as directed and keep the regular humidifier elsewhere in the case. With fairly regular refillings of the regular humidifier your oasis gel packs will stay soft and the humidity in your case will remain at around 50%.

Here is my logic: The Oasis gel packs do indeed regulate the humidity at around the correct value. These packs come with moisture in them to begin with so if you are humidifiying your guitar in a climate that is very dry, these gel packs eventually dry out. However, they release their moisture slowly in order to maintain the correct humidity. If, however, the humidity rises above 50% then the gels packs will absorb moisture. A regular humidifier will essentially release it's moisture completely over time. It will not absorb moisture. So if you put the regular humidifier in your case with the gel pack system the humidifier will release it's moisture like normal and if the humidity is too high the gel packs will absorb this moisture. Once the regular humidifier is getting close to empty the gel packs will release their moisture to keep the humidity at the right level. Then it's time to refill your humidifier.

So you keep your gel packs alive (no need to buy more), the humidity at the correct value, and your guitar (and you) happy!

One more thing. I bet some of you are concerned that the gel packs could potentially absorb enough moisture from the humidifier to saturate the gel packs and cause them to leak. I haven't experienced this in the whole year I've had it and I refill my regular humidifier regularly.

Also, my gel packs went completely hard before I decided to add a regular humidifier and they "came back to life" and are now nice and soft again.
The crystals in this product do exactly what they are supposed to.....they regulate the humidity in your guitar case to around 45-50%. These will of course eventually dry out if ythe humidity in the air is less that 45-50%. Read review below for futher instructions.

I bought a Taylor GS Mini on Monday 1/13/14 and the Planet Waves Humidipak Control System at the same time. I followed the directions exactly and each time I took my guitar out of the case, placed the humidipak back in the case and latched the case. I practice several times a day. On Friday evening 1/17/14 I went to practice (for the third time that day) and noticed there was something inside my guitar. I was quite upset as I have been extremely careful with it and I noticed the humidipak was wet. The Taylor C.O.A. inside the guitar had a blob of gel goop on it and it dripped further into the guitar. I did an internet search to see if there was a proper way to clean up this mess but all I found were complaints by other guitarists that this product leaked for them. I loosened the strings and cleaned it by blotting the mess up with a paper towel. It eventually dried and evaporated but the sticker inside the guitar has what looks like a water mark and is wrinkled and some of the print is lightened. Planet Waves claims they fixed the problem. Maybe I bought a bad one but I will never use these again!

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Two-Way Humidification System:

When I first discovered a split in my Taylor 454 12 string I immediately ran it to the local dealer who verified it was only the finish and not the wood. Lesson learned owning an upper priced gtr with finer higher quality woods, they DO dry out, unlike the lesser grade ones. I never bothered with humidification on any of my lesser grade gtrs. This system is actually recommended by Taylor and works as verified with calibrated hygrometer. I have this system in all 3 of my higher end guitars.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Two-Way Humidification System:

I've used these for a number of years on my instruments during the dry New England winter months. They continue to do the job but I've notice the quality of the sleeves has gone down over they years. Last year the cloth sleeve that the packet goes into was a very thin cheap fabric. This year it was the same cheap fabric but they manufactured it to be slightly smaller than the insert. This means I had to wrestle with each packet to get it into the sleeve. In some cases having to wrinkle it up to get it to fit. I have no analytical way of telling if the contents of the packet has diminished but the sleeves are much cheaper.

Much less hassle than the sponge type, and they protect my expensive Martins and Gibsons by keeping the humidity level fairly constant.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves Two-Way Humidification System:

I purchased this product and replacements starting at the end of October, and I think the directions state that the gel packs can last up to 2-3 months. (depending on conditions of course) For me, I had to change about once every 6-8 weeks. However, their packaging changed and I'm not sure if their formula changed too, but the last pack only lasted 3 weeks. I think I'll be going back to a sponge and distilled water... Disappointed considering the price point. Great concept, but fell short of my expectations.

75% of the time the packs work great, the other times they have leaked or arrived dried out. Quality control is not good.

Very upsetting to have pack leak in my top-end Taylor.

This is the easiest, most efficient way I've found to control the humidity in the case. Can get caught up in the strings a little when you're removing the rig as the humidipacs can snag the string but it's no big problem at all. No muss, no fuss and as long as the replacable pouches are soft, you're good to go. No more weekly soakings and wringing excess water out. I wish they would lower the cost of the replacement pouches but it's not cost prohibitive as it is.
