OVERVIEW

All the features of the NS Mini, and more, but in an even smaller size.

The NS Micro offers improved accuracy, faster response, expanded calibration range, visual metronome mode and an improved ratchet design. A highly sensitive piezo transducer and easy-to-read multi-color backlit display allow smooth and highly accurate tuning in noisy, dim or well-lit environments while the micro design and reversible screen allow the tuner to hide effortlessly behind or mount on the front side of the headstock allowing the tuner to remain clamped to the instrument inside most cases when stored. A 360-degree swivel mechanism and adjustable padded clamp offer optimal viewing angles and maximum positioning flexibility. As a result, the NS Micro is equally at home on left- and right-handed instruments as well as on small and large headstocks, making it an ideal choice for the widest variety of players and instruments. The NS Micro is powered by a readily available CR2032 battery (included) and provides maximum battery life utilizing an auto-off function, shutting the tuner off automatically after several minutes from power up.

FEATURES
  • Built-in piezo transducer picks up instrument's vibration rather than sound
  • Improved software for faster response and improved accuracy
  • Tri-color reversible backlit LCD screen makes it easy to tune in dark environments while allowing mounting in front or behind headstock
  • Wide calibration range (410Hz to 480Hz) and visual metronome
  • Compact design blends into the aesthetics of instrument while adding considerably less weight than other headstock tuners
  • Tunes acoustic and electric guitars, basses, mandolins, banjos and other stringed instruments

I ordered some more PlanetWaves headstock tuners and these came instead---they're apparently newer/updated models. Still compact, unobtrusive and accurate. The compact design might limit visibility with some placements but it surely contributes to keeping the unit out of harm's way and accidental damage. Small enough to leave on you axe when you put it to bed in its case. They work just as well as the original version with theses added/updated features: (1) Metronome (visual) function, (2)Display "flip" function (useful!), and (3) an easier to use clamp/clip. The battery compartment is, however, more difficult to open than the original version---you may need a pair of needle-nose pliers to apply the proper amount of squeeze and pull to release the battery holder. The good news is that I've been using my original ones daily, for months, and have yet to replace the battery.

This is the first tuner if this type I've used and it works great in the home or where ever there isn't much ambient noise, but it's definitely not a good stage tuner. It picks up every noise on stage, which makes for a difficult time trying to retune during a performance. I found myself having to wait for a quiet moment then hurriedly tuning whichever string was out. For home use, it works well, just not on stage.

I bought this product simply to use for down tuning live without having to switch to a second guitar already tuned down.
tuning can be done with the volume knob "OFF" because the device works on vibration.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves NS Micro Headstock Tuner:

Seems to be of a decent build quality. However, I don't know how long it will last. It's very small, and the plastic doesn't seem to be of the highest quality. I have a Snark tuner as well, and I believe poor construction is the price you pay for cheap tuners. Good thing they're cheap. Aside from that, very accurate, LED screen is much brighter than the Snark. More visible in the dark.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves NS Micro Headstock Tuner:

With its small size I can leave it on my guitar head to check and tweak my guitar tuning without unplugging from my amp, and plugging in one of my larger tuners.
One thing worth mentioning is this tuner only works on open strings and will not read a note from a fretted string.
Great for a guitar or bass.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves NS Micro Headstock Tuner:

I picked up a 2-pack of these during a recent sale. If you can get the 2-pack on sale, they're a decent bargain.

I like the fact that it's small. This allows me to quickly tune up between songs. The display is also bright and easy to read, although I have not tried it outside in sunlight.

I do a lot of practice at home and also play lead guitar in a church trio. I have not had any issues with my tuner being confused by others playing, however it is a bit slow to respond. On an electric, it often takes several plucks of the same string to get it to read. The tuner seems to have the most difficult time on the low E of all my electrics - it has no problem on my acoustics. On an acoustic guitar, the display quickly shows the status of the string being tuned. An inline tuner, such as my Boss TU-2, TU-15, or Digitech Vocalist Live 2 do not exhibit this issue with electics.

I also like the fact that the head swivels and that you can mirror the display. This allows you to position it on the front or rear of the headstock and still see the display with ease.

I have been using this one for a few weeks, so I cannot comment on the CR-2032 battery life. The tuner will work with electrics, but is probably better suited for acoustics. The 2-pack is a good value - especially if you can catch it on sale.

Comments about D'Addario Planet Waves NS Micro Headstock Tuner:

Like the older Planet Waves/D'Addario tuners, these work decently well. I haven't had too much problem with ambient noise interference, but they react a little slowly. That said, I put one on my acoustic guitar and tapped the headstock on a mic stand (yeah, I'm a little clumsy) and the tuner clip stripped and the tuner flew off. I retrieved it and tried to put it back on, but some teeth had stripped off of the clip and it won't tighten.
They need to re-think the design. It's not rugged enough for stage use, in my opinion.
