If you like the bright tone of new strings and the deep bottom end then these are your new strings. They have a great tone throughout the sound spectrum with even tone and balance between the different strings, including the Low B string. They keep their super brightness for awhile and then mellow out to a bright tone. My last set of strings has lasted me 3 months, and my bass is due for a new set. This is with a lot of practices and live gigs with tons of sweat on them and a quick wipe down afterwards. I have found my permanent strings. Through my years of playing I have tried every string maker out there and D'Addario are my favorites due to their consistency between each set of strings, tone, price, and easy on the fingers while playing.I wish that I could get an endorsement from D'Addario.

I originally bought these strings so that I could get a brighter tone from my Ibanez SR505, but these strings were not what I wanted. The sound from these strings was very metallic and clunky, especically while slapping and popping, even tapping. They hold tune, but they just sound awful. I guess it's a matter of personal preference.

Comments about D'Addario ProSteels EPS170-5 Regular Light 5-String Bass Strings:

These strings have a real bright tone to them. I love the slap tone as well as fingerstyle. When I use a pick, these strings sound mean. You can get some really aggressive sounds from these strings. When the description says "piano like tone" I get it. There is a nice bright metallic overtone that sounds really nice. If super bright isn't your thing, cut the hi's on your amp or tone knob and still get that nice sound without being super bright. A lot of times I need it bright so I get these strings and I can always dial back some hi's. What is tough for me is getting less bright strings and trying to make them bright, that usually doesn't sound very natural.. Good strings for a good price.

Comments about D'Addario ProSteels EPS170-5 Regular Light 5-String Bass Strings:

For 35 years Ive demanded that "piano bright" sound from my basses. If i got 2 gigs out of a set of strings I was lucky. That bright sound gets horribly pricy. Stumbled upon these super brights about 6 months ago and gave them a try. First set i bought were on my bass for almost 3 months and still sounded right out of the package! Cudos and my highest reccomendation.

Comments about D'Addario ProSteels EPS170-5 Regular Light 5-String Bass Strings:

I wanted some strings to brighten up my ebony boarded fretless five string (a G&L L2500). These worked wonders. Not sure how long they last as I've just got them. But so far they are the perfect match for the bass.
Great sound and I like the feel. A little rough but I sweat a lot and this helps with grip. The roughness seems to be common to stainless strings.
I have used many brands over the years and have NEVER had an issue with D'Addario for multiple types of stringed instruments. Given a choice I will will always choose their brand. Plus they are made in the USA - something I care about.
Reasonably priced, great tone, no issues

I use the super long scale on my Ibanez BTB 305FM. It was the first change I made from the factory strings (Elixer?) and I couldn't be more satisfied. They last ages, they aren't rough on your fingers like most steel strings, and they're BRIGHT. Best strings I've ever used.

The local store wouldn't refund my money for selling me the wrong set claiming they were long enough. D'Addario sent me free of charge a new set of super long prosteels to fit my long scale string thru. Low Prices, Great punchy powerful Sound, I also use them on my 4-strings tuned to C and B.

Comments about D'Addario ProSteels EPS170-5 Regular Light 5-String Bass Strings:

I'd been looking for my "dream" set of strings for years, and never quite coming across them until I had tried D'addario's ProSteel line. I was looking for a piano-like "chime" without sacrificing the low-end of my basses, and these were exactly what I'd been looking for. Not nearly as rough on your fingers as other stainless steel strings yet just enough to help toughen up your calluses, these are the perfect balance between super-slick coated strings and some of the earlier steel strings made that are bleed which are still on the market. If you're looking for strings that'll help you cut through the mix whether live or in the studio, help with finding the perfect slapping or tapping sound and yet still sounds like a *bass*, look no further. That they last longer than all the steel strings I've tried in my playing career is a extra bonus - it's always nice to put off changing strings. Just wipe them down, and you'll be set for months. Nothing else gets placed on my fretted basses than D'addario ProSteels.*Please note: These are "D'addario"s "Long Scale" size made for 34" bass and may-or-may-not fit your 35"-scale bass depending on the length from the nut to the tuners, if you string through-the-body or other reasons that extend the string length past the scale length (nut-to-bridge saddle distance). If you have a 35" scale bass or are unsure, purchase the EPS170-5SL "Super Long" Extended Length set.
