This will probably the last kind of guitar strings I'll be using for my Les Paul. It is perfect for Jazz & Blues. As what the packaging say, it gives warm clear tone and it is ultra smooth. After installing it to my Les Paul, I played continously for 5hours and my left hand fingers did not even hurt a little. You can slide and bend smoothly with this. You won't probably put your guitar down for hours after installing this. You will fall in-love with your guitar after hearing it with this string.

Also, D'Addario has a great corrosion protection packaging. The strings are fresh after you've opened it.

These string are alright. I put them on, and they are what they say: REALLY mellow tone. I didn't like it, but it was kind of amusing to hear. When I used them through an amp with distortion they sounded alright. And, for a second, I thought I might use them; but they're not good for solos and you can't do pick slides, due to the flat nature of the wound. They do almost totally eliminate the noise from your fingers though. That's pretty cool. Now, I play metal, but I wanted to try them. And I had heard a few people who play metal liking these. And they would work for a few kinds of metal (the styles that are all lows and no solos or leads). They're meant for Jazz anyway. If you play the aformentioned metal styles, then go ahead and try them out. But, most metal people should just not bother.

Found perfect strings at last !

Comments about D'Addario XL Chromes Jazz Light Electric Guitar Strings ECG24 Flatwound:

I've tried all sorts of strings on my Ibanez AS103 semi-acoustic guitar in my search for a jazzy tone with easy playability. I've tried Thomastik, Pyramid, flatwounds, roundwounds, half-rounds etc etc, but I think I have finally found some strings I'll stick with.
The great thing about the chromes is that they have the mellow tone of flatwounds, but they have a "soft" feel. The other brands of flatwounds that I tried e.g. Thomastik, Pyramid felt very "stiff" to play. I just could not get used to the feel of them. I found that the other brands restricted my articulation on the fretboard, but the chromes don't because of the "soft" feel.
Of course it's all down to personal preference, but for me these are great strings.

Make the Jazzmaster sound like it should. May go to the extra lights next time just to experiment, but either way, these are the strings you need to make your Jazzmaster or Jaguar sound like they were intended.

Comments about D'Addario XL Chromes Jazz Light Electric Guitar Strings ECG24 Flatwound:

Many of my guitar students have never felt, let alone played for any period of time on flatwound strings. I have this gauge of D'Addario Chromes on my Ibanez Artcore AFS 75T (Bigsby removed)
My younger students always want to play this instrument now, whenever I bring it in. The sound of these strings is so mellow, folks just love to play on them. More durable than the old-school Gibson strings of the 50s-60s. Intonation is fine, even with the floating bridge. Good product overall.

The D'AddarioXL Chromes are hard to beat. Jazz guitarist Sandy DeVito told me about them. They last, the tone stays with you, and they are just a darn good flatwound string. I've been using them for years and have no cons or complaints. The price is right too.

I bought these at a store on a whim. With nothing better to do, I put them on an acoustic guitar. They have a dense, clear tone. The attack isn't as sharp as normal strings, but the sustain seems to be about the same. Best part? No string squeak when I slide my fingers up and down the fretboard.

Great strings with a great price from Musicians Friend. These are the only strings I use on my Byrdland. They give me the jazz tone and playability I look for on a jazzbox. They seem to last longer than other brands.

I've played for my own enjoyment for quite a few years. Flat wound strings are quiet. They do not make finger noise as conventional wound strings do. 10's bend slightly easier than these do. Personally, I like them both.

The perfect tone for surf music. When played through a reverb stand alone unit, these strings allow all the punch you want while rolling off any brittleness typical of heavy reverb settings. In the end, the player and listeners can hear the lush yet bold sound that keeps people interested enough to hang around. i've tried several other flatwounds but these are the best by far.

I play solo jazz guitar 3-4 nights a week. Yes, it's true, as some guitarists will say, that flatwounds don't have a crisp tone....well, they're not supposed to! They're FLATWOUNDS! But their warm & mellow tone is beautiful.......and talk about long lasting! I put this set on 3 years ago!...and just yesterday the G (a wound 22) broke. So, I'll order a new set and be good-to-go for another 3 years! :) :) :)

I first got this string off a recommendation from a friend. I usually play rock and roll so I was very reluctant to get jazz type strings. Boy was it a great idea! Stringing them to my guitar was a tough task but very doable. They tuned fine, felt so smooth and amazing, and gave my guitar a great, great noise. However, the string do not bend that great, if you do want to do a bend you will not only have to work for it, but it will hurt a little bit. The first week of playing your fingers will feel the pain of the thicker string. Once you get acclimated to the strings it is a great ride. They are just one great sounding string.
