They're packaging is interesting too, and optimized for eco-friendly standards. The strings are all twined together in one ring, found inside a closed plastic bag within the easy-tear open box. The convenient color-coded guide found on the inside of the box came in handy while stringing up my axes.

These are the strings I will use from now on.

I put these strings on my ibanez RG and they have WAY to much tension for drop C, even drop B is a little too much. i normally use the exl117 strings which are Medium Top/Extra-Heavy Bottom and they are the only ones im putting back on it and those ones are perfect for drop C. i only had these heavy strings on for a few days and i just hated them from the start. good quality just to heavy. if you want to play drop A these strings might be ok.

Comments about D'Addario XL148 Nickel-Wound, Drop C Tuning Electric Guitar Strings:

The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think...well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily.

Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I couldn't recommend these strings more!

I currently use this gauge for playing in both Drop B and Drop Bb, but i have problems with the .60 staying in tune. I experimented with different low e strings and found that a .59 works the best instead of the .60.

Comments about D'Addario XL148 Nickel-Wound, Drop C Tuning Electric Guitar Strings:

I've been playing Dunlop Heavy Core strings for several years. When I went to buy some new sets, my local music store were out, and I was recommended to buy these instead. I was initially expecting to use them just to get by until my Dunlop's arrived... However, upon playing these, I was instantly hearing a better tone and clearer sound from them. After several days of playing, I have become even more impressed by them, and I'm going to be using these permanently instead. But let me emphasize, if you're planning on using these strings for any tuning other than Drop-C, DON'T put these on your guitar! They are designed specifically and only for Drop-C

            • Heavy Low Tunning

Comments about D'Addario XL148 Nickel-Wound, Drop C Tuning Electric Guitar Strings:

Good Tension For Standard C Tuning. One reviewer mentioned that they were way too heavy for Drop C tuning. He may be right. As well he said they were a little much for drop B. He is very likely right about that also. Because however, the packaging does indicates C Tuning, not Drop C. Drop C is actually D tuning with only the top string lowered a whole step. Drop B is still C# with the top string lowered a whole step to B. Standard C tuning is lower than both and needs heavier strings to maintain tension. This set works great for C tuning and even drop Bd and also works okay for standard B tuning with a 25.5 inch scale neck. I have not tried them on a 7/8 scale guitar yet but I feel they would work fine. They might be a little too slack in standard B, of course I have yet to try. Now if you are used to playing on 9-42 sets, these strings will take a lot of getting used to. It took me a while but once you get settled in to them no lighter gauge will give you the same solid feel. These strings can essentially turn your axe into a baritone and as I found out, I can riff right along with my 7 string playing buddies. The low end harmonics also tend to jump right off these strings when using the bridge pickup. I currently have them on a guitar with active EMGs which make an awesome combination for modern heavy music.

Comments about D'Addario XL148 Nickel-Wound, Drop C Tuning Electric Guitar Strings:

Through the years I have tried numerous brands of heavy guage strings and I always end up coming back to D'addario. The tone is very balanced...punchy, vibrant, and plenty of clarity without being overly bright. This particular guage gives me plenty of stability on the low strings without feeling too stiff on the highs. Definitely recommended.

My tuff old fingers break the lighter strings. I have broken the 12ga. but that was the first set I used after putting the Sperzal locking machine heads and over tightened the lock knob. They are set up for C but work fine in E flat. I hope they never get discontinued.

I got these a couple weeks ago, and oh. My. God. These string are AWESOME! I've been having trouble finding strings that work for my band, because we play in Drop A, and these definitely do the trick. There's more tension to the strings, they sound awesome, and they feel great. And on top of that, they made it fairly easy to do my Pinch Harmonics. \m/ \m/

Although I use these strings for Drop C they are optimized for C (standard). This set works well for me but string gauge and tuning are a matter of preference. Whoever is reading this and is curious about this product should experiment and choose what works best for them.
