I own two acoustic guitars that I have experience with, using the D'Andrea tone pins. My guitars are: 1968 Martin D12-35 Brazilian w/ D-28 neck retro-fitted by Martin in Nazareth, PA
1994 Taylor 810CE Indian Rosewood w/original type neck
Prior to re-pinning these guitars, I have used the orginal plastic pins from the factory. Also, I've used a variety of strings on both: silk & steel, Phosphor & Bronze, and Bronze. On the Martin, I have a Shadow SH470 3-pickup assembly, and on the Taylor, the Fishman Prefix Onboard blender system.
I was looking primarily for increased clarity, esp. in the treble range, w/o sacrificing the bottom end. If you're looking for a sound that doesn't re-color your guitar's woodiness, you may want to stay with ebony, bone, or even Micarta versions. But I'm not a purist, so if you want to scream at me, knock yourself out. Originally, D'Andrea only offered the cylindrical-head design, so I had to get what I could get. More recently, they're offering the traditional-pin style tone pins, which I much prefer. With the cylindrical, I find the touch is maximum sustain, although somewhat more brassy. With the traditional, the combination is shifted more toward the ebony-woody with one side brassy. Note that the cylindrical style has you pulling your string through a hole in the pin head so that when you change strings, the string and pin stay threaded, while in the traditional, you have a separated string and pin combination.
I love the brass pins and wouldn't go back for anything. Sustain is heavenly, and the clarity unparalleled, in my opinion. You should expect a Roger McGuinn effect that gets pulled into your amp nicely, and a louder and clearer effect w/o amplification. For me, I think brass strings match better with the brass pins than the phosphor-bronze strings, but others may feel the reverse rings truer for them. If you don't try the brass pins, you'll never know if you like them, and they're so inexpensive, you haven't lost much of anything for the try-out. I heartily recommend them.

I bought these "mother of pearl" edition pins to use on my year-old Cort Earth-70E. From the moment I opened the box, I was disappointed. One of the pearl inlays was blemished with a garishly ugly brown stain. Then as I replaced my strings and started to install the new pins, each one popped out as soon as tension was applied. (in a slightly comical fashion, one flew across the entire room) The pins are obviously built too thin to fit in a standard size acoustic bridge. After some coercion by my rubber mallet, I was able to get 4/6 of the pins to actually stay in (hopefully a permanent solution), and for the middle two strings I used my original plastic pins. Since they are arranged symmetrically, the alternation doesn't look terrible, but I was really looking forward to the increased sustain and sharper tone akin to brass parts. (and the middle two strings are the most important ones to me!) For the money, it's not worth running through the RMA process, but this is the first time I've ever been disappointed with a purchase here.

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:
Put these on my cheap guitar with potential. A Kona acoustic-electric thin-body. I was very impressed with the tonal changes. Everything seemed more vibrant. I got more volume and more sustain as well. I bought the abalone ones and they are very nice to look at. I gave this a 4/5 because during the install I had several issues with the pins fitment. I'd push them all in very hard and then go to tune and a pin would go flying across the room. I got them all to stay in eventually with no modifications. Apart from that, this is a wonderful product. Well worth the money.

Put these on my prized 1969 Yamaha Red Label, which was already sounding wonderful. What can I say? They made the tone even better! I'm amazed. Now for all those Washburns and the Fender acoustic-electric. Upgrade the whole collection!

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:
Bought these for a friend to try them out. They worked out perfectly. If you are setting up your guitar with new strings, you may need to do your tuning adjustments slowly until these pins seat properly. Just push them in as you are tuning and they should stay in fine.

Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:
I installed these on my A&L guitar, very easy to change out since I was changing strings at the same time. Just be sure and seat them properly as they may slip out when tuning your guitar. Quite an improvement in tone, was very impressed, glad I found these on Musician's Friend web site. I plan on purchasing another set for my Washburn guitar soon.
Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:
Aesthetically, these pins look great. Performance wise the guitar is louder than before, it also has sharper dynamics and picks up on little sound and details that plastic pins don't.
Great looks and solid weight to them, I purchased them with white dots and the look is great. The only reason there not 10/10 is because one of the dots is indented, but thats just nit picking.
Nice, solid, shiny brass. Its going to take a lot to wear these pins out, they should last the rest of the guitar's life.
For the price its a pretty good deal.
Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:
It was to skinny and didn't fit my Martin D-1R
Smaller than it looks
Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:
Nothing to cheer about. No transformation. Pretty to look at but thats it for me. Nothing changed.
Put them in the old guitar....sounds the same as the plastic ones. Maybe new strings will change my mind but....not worth the trouble
They don't lie about what they are and they are pretty but no tonal change at all
They may out last the guit but I'm keeping the old ones in the other guitar
Comments about D'Andrea Tone Pins Brass Bridge Pin Set:
overall - I'd recommend to anyone
The quality seems to be very nice. The overall tone and sustain of my guitar is MUCH better than with my old pins. The overall sound seems to have zero string interference - 100% sound. Good bass notes and super bright highs. I use these pins with a bone nut and saddle and I couldn't ask for any better. I'm impressed.
great

i bought these espeally to use on my dean ml custic because i thought it would look cool and didnt really think it would affect my tone... they were easy to instrall and they looked killer, and to top things off the added tone just blew my mind...
the quality of the brass was good and the abalone looks smashing especally with the gloss black body of my ml custic
great value considering the quality of the bridgepins
