These are, in my experience, actually better in effects pedals than modern-style batteries. Few other reviews mention the difference; I've found they make a fuzz pedal a bit crisper and fuller, and less likely to get muddy and cut frequencies at volume. My wah-wah has a more even response across its range, with noticeably reduced annoying volume peaks at certain positions, and more clarity/transparency. Even the result of putting one of these in a 9V-powered condenser mic for recording was a bit crisper and clearer... Basically use these in anything that needs a bit more crispness or less muddiness.

I bought 24 of these bad boys based on the reviews and value. I have to say, the battery I put into my classroom metronome is going on two months of daily use and is still working perfectly. I've used them in the active pickups on my guitar, and on several different effects pedals with absolute amazement at how long they last.

I decided to run a test by using two matching Boss tuner pedals and one of the Danelectros and a Duracell. I wouldn't call the tonal coloration drastic, but mellow is the best way to describe the tone variation.

Now, for the CON - I use a pair of Shure PG58 wireless mics daily when my school is preparing for plays. I slapped two of these bad boys into the mics and within 10 minutes they cut out and were dead(ish). I know "deadish?" what does that mean? Well, I could cut them off and back on again and they'd work fine - for another 10 minutes or so. Needless to say that just isn't going to to do the job.
I'm not going to return them - after all they're a great value and they work FOREVER in pedals (as well as my clock on the wall). I just have to suggest that you look for something else if your going to need to push juice into a handheld wireless mic.

Pros

  • Good Value
  • Reliable Performance
  • What pedals and 9V amps need

Cons

    Best Uses

    • Musician pedals and Micro (9V) Amps

Comments about Danelectro 9-Volt Vintage Style Batteries 2-Pack:

I have a little tiny Danelectro guitar amplifier that has both echo and tremolo, plus a gain knob.
After using alkaline batteries, I noticed that the amp distorted easily and I figured it was just a toy that got broken from volume abuse. After reading about the discharge rate being uniform with this type of application, I wonder if this battery would have avoided that.
