Epic sustain and bright tone from Dean Markley.

The stainless steel alloy of the 2613 Helix HD Bass Guitar Strings has an inherent bright and cutting timbre to it. It gives a Bass String an unforgettable “stainless” tone. The Helix strings go a step further to optimize tone and sustain in the patent pending way they are designed and constructed. Just like the NPS Helix Bass, Helix SS Bass features the Hyper Elliptical Windings (compressed from side to side), which gives Helix more Mass and Tone, as well as extended life. This Hyper Elliptical winding is what gives Helix its special feel—a more relaxed feel, with a lot less squeak and sliding noises than normal strings.

Gauges: .045, .060, .080 and .100

Comments about Dean Markley 2613 Helix HD Bass Guitar Strings:

First the packaging is very misleading. These are medium lights and I bought em cause the packaging on the mediums was, in the picture, marked as SS and I assumed that to be short scale where these were pictured as MLS and I figured that was for medium long scale. What I got was a set that, unlike the picture, was also marked SS and, oddly enough, still fit my 34" scale bass just fine. Secondly, and I realize the lighter gauge is part of the problem, but these things are VERY springy and cause horrible ammounts of string clack when played finger style unless you are very careful as to how you play. So much so that you can't really play fast or even mildly aggressive with hearing the strings slapping off the fret board. They may perform better if you use a pick and when slapped (on purpose that is!) they sound great but that was the only application I could find for them. Otherwise the tone is good and they are quite easy on the fingers but I personally need strings without this much snap to cover all the genres of music that my band plays out every week without having to alter my playing style just to accomodate a set of strings. I'll soon be switching them out with a set of Cobalts or DR's that I plan to order as soon as I finish this review!
