These are the strings recommended by Jack Casady, the master of tonality. Pay attention. These are the standard recommended strings for the Casady Signature Bass (which itself is a masterpiece in tone). At one time he made the claim that he strings all his basses with these. I can only agree. They are very sensitive, and therefore personal results will vary. But it is that awesome sensitivity that allows for tonal control. Their responsiveness is awesome. Lively, deep and bright. With proper adjustment they will punch with the best. But then again, these may be the very best there is. Chordal tones are exquisite.
Pretty smooth for round wounds. Deep, punchy and bright. Able to produce beautiful bass chords.
I've used them exclusively on my basses for over ten years. Only broke one. They seem to hold their tone for a long, long time.

Having played with quite a few strings, i have realized that there are only a couple of really great strings! The best probably being elixir's "nanoweb," and the other being dean markley's "blue steel." I would recommend to anyone wanting a GREAT, long-lasting set of strings to go with elixir. But if you don't have enough money to do so, blue steel offers good sounding strings that don't out-last elixir but will out-last almost any other set of strings.

I'm going to keep it simple. These are the best strings I have ever used. I put these on my 90's G&L SB-1 p-bass and it came alive like never before. Love these strings

Comments about Dean Markley 2674 Blue Steel Cryogenic Medium Light Bass Strings:

I have used the strings for the last 20 or so years, being a performing bass player. I've tried others but ALWAYS end up coming back to the Dean Markley Blue Steels. I even use them for my guitars (both electric and acoustic). The current set I have on my 4 string bass have been on for about 2.5 yrs. and STILL sound great. Granted, they don't (nor could) sound like a brand new set but these are the ONLY strings I've encountered that retain their sound longer than any other bass strings I've tried.

Comments about Dean Markley 2674 Blue Steel Cryogenic Medium Light Bass Strings:

I've been playing bass for over 40 years, and using Blue Steels for almost half that time. Early on, I used Rotosounds (expensive), D'Addario (short life), and Ernie Ball (inconsistent...had dead strings out of the package).

I typically go for a bright and grinding tone (think Chris Squire, dUg Pinnick), and probably change bass strings more in a year than some players do in a life time (typically every other show). I've gone through hundreds of sets and never had a problem with Blue Steels. And now, they're packing them in a moisture proof barrier (way to go).

For the money, I haven't found a better bass string. I just wish it was possible to order singles (I usually kill the low E before the other strings).

            Nice Strings!

Comments about Dean Markley 2674 Blue Steel Cryogenic Medium Light Bass Strings:

These are great! Tried 'em based on reviews here at Musician's Friend, and wasn't disappointed. Put them on my 1976 Ric 4001, and the sound is fantastic. As an added bonus, they're much easier on the fingers than equally bright-sounding strings from other manufacturers, which (seems, anyway) to have translated into some faster, easier playing with a whole lot less unwanted noise. From my perspective, they're giving me the advantages of flat-wounds, without the cost in tone. Love 'em!
They sound great. I can't yet comment on the claim of longer life, as I've only been using them for about 5-6 weeks now...
Good price, right in line with many other quality strings.

Dean markley Blue Steel bass strings 45-105 gauge

Comments about Dean Markley 2674 Blue Steel Cryogenic Medium Light Bass Strings:

I used to use blue steels as nice change of pace from rotosund swing 66. Back then the Blue Steels had blue silk wrap instead of white. Lately Ive wanted a change of pace for strings again and decided to retry these for that. Glad I did. They still have the crack of thunder lows I loved them for back then. And I think better treble response then they had back then. They was really really trebly bright initially new out of the box, so getting them broken in was a basic goal back then when useing them. The set I put on my bass a few hrs ago doesnt have that problem. Yes they have more treble top then rotosounds, but not the excessive amount I remember for initial brand new out of box. Very nice tonal balance with just a slight roll off of treble control for new string sound. The blue steels are an excellent choice for anyone wanting an aggressive authoritative bass voice imo. I'll prob put one of the guitar sets on one of my 6 stringers tommorrow since I bought both bass and guitar sets.

I've used these since they came and they've actually gotten cheaper over the years. Just a great string for any kind of music. I've used them on active and passive basses.

These strings are awesome. i have them on a passive traben tb4. they are the warmest sounding strings i have ever heard. i think that these strings will sound better on an active. that is my next project. i have been playing bass for about seven years and i must say that these are the best strings ive had yet.

The only roundwound strings I use

Comments about Dean Markley 2674 Blue Steel Cryogenic Medium Light Bass Strings:

These strings get that gritty rotosound tone but last longer and are now cheaper. They are the only roundwound strings I use (I primarily play flatwounds). I've found they stay bright sounding for a good 2 months of heavy playing but they still sound good even when they get old.

I am a bass player w/25 years experience and I've used the Blue Steel Med. Light gauge bass strings for at least 20 of those years (not sure exactly when they came out w/these). Yes, I've used others (Bass Boomers, Ernie Ball, D'Addario, etc.) but I always come back to these. They are a versatile string suited to multiple genres and they are super durable. Glad to see the price has come down on these, which tells me I'm not the only bass player with a similar opinion of Blue Steel strings. Enjoy!!!!
