While these strings are very bright at first (except the low B ) they were great strings. Great value for the price. I think its my bass (Warwick 2010 Corvette Rockbass with EMG Jazz pickups) that contributes to the muddiness of the low B wich was pretty much dead out of the pack. My bass is also a 34" scale and these strings fit perfectly.
Very bright and true sounding. The strings are not very smooth but hey they are steels! Very great sounding strings the low B on my warwick is very muddy though.
A very decent quality for a set of bass strings. The low B on my warwick (34" scale w/EMG Jazz Pickups) is too muddy for my liking. the other strings are very bright and snappy however.
A great value. Great strings! and hey Mike Inez uses em!

Comments about Dean Markley 2679 Blue Steel Medium/Long 5-String Bass Strings:

I originally purchased one set of Blue Steels for my '71 Fender P-Bass. Great low end tones without sacrificing crisp high- and mid- tones with consistent sound whether picked or plucked. Once stretched they hold tuning as well or better than most other strings I've used in the past. I now use Dean Markleys (Blue Steel, Nikki Sixx Helix or SR2000) on all of my basses. And Musician's Friend offers the best pricing to be found, beating their competitors prices by about 30% per set.

          Good tone? No, GREAT tone!

I bought a used Peavey 5er and needed to upgrade strings. Based on user review and price I ordered these.

Can't believe what they have done for a guitar that is quite well made for it's price range, but still a intro/mid level instrument. Suddenly it's like active electronics at work! The tone is so full, LOUD, and rich; so playable with no neck adjustments necessary. I can't vouch for their longevity, but they have started out awesome!

These strings have transformed my Peavey bass. They went on easily, sound better than I thought this bass could sound, and from all reviews I can expect them to last a long time.

I'm blown away by these strings, they are lasting longer than any other strings I've used. They stay in tune longer as well, even with solid bending. I've used them for weeks now and there's no visible wear or deterioration.

I have been playin bass for 42 yrs - off and on - have tried MANY different brands from flat to round wounds...you will NOT find a better brand of string for the money. The longevity and tone you retain with these strings can not be beat. If you're looking for hamonics on a bass string you must be a frustrated guitar player. These strings deliver any sound/punch you should require from you bass. If your looking for more maybe its your bass cause I can GUARENTEE you it is NOT the Blue Steel Strings that are selling you short. I would and will not buy any other brand ! ! FABULOUS Strings. Long Live Dean Markley ! !

Comments about Dean Markley 2679 Blue Steel Medium/Long 5-String Bass Strings:

I have had these strings for 2 months now, and unlike other strings, THEY STILL WORK! I used to be a sucker for Ernie Ball's "nanoweb technology" scam, thinking that all bass strings lasted just a single month; but once I came across these strings, I felt dooped by Ernie Ball. I practice about 2 hours a day, and I go through strings pretty fast, so I need strings that will last a while so that I won't have to spend $50 every month: these strings get you out of that money wasting rut. Not only have they saved me money, but the tone is great as well, and they stay in their prime longer than other strings. I've looked and looked for strings that will fit my budget and give me the sound I need, and these have solved all of my problems. They work for ALL styles, and have impecable harmonic tone (I don't care what anyone else says). There's no reason to wait, by a pack NOW!
