OVERVIEW

A special winding process gives you a one-of-a-kind tone.

Gauges: .013, .017, .026, .036, .046, .056

The Dean Markley HELIX HD acoustic 2083 strings are medium-gauge strings that will give your music a sound like no other. It took over a year and many trials for the Dean Markley team to find just the precise elliptical shape for the winding wire that makes up the patent-pending, Hyper-Elliptical Winding process of the Dean Markley Helix HD guitar strings. This shape then had to be paired with the correct winding process that would produce these stupendous results—the maximum mass for the guitar string's diameter that still maintained the string's vibrancy.

The Hyper-Elliptical Winding process results in an increased number of wraps along the length of the Dean Markley acoustic guitar string. This increases the mass of your string, without changing its diameter or material.

More mass makes the Dean Markley acoustic guitar strings have a fuller tone; more windings give a smoother feel as well as a brighter, more resonant tone. This provides a smoothness and performance unrivaled by conventional strings.

When you press and strum a normal wrap wire, your fingers experience resistance as they go down into each depression between the wraps. With the Dean Markley HELIX HD acoustic guitar strings you'll experience smoothness. These less coarse wrappings let your fingers glide more easily and smoothly along the surface of the wrap wire.

Made of 80% copper, and 20% zinc, these Dean Markley acoustic guitar strings are made of a true brass alloy—well-balanced and durable for loud, rich sound that is exceptionally long-lasting. Helix HD's unique Hyper-Elliptical Winding process adds more projection and tone than other acoustic guitar strings of the same gauges, and reduces corrosion and finger noise on the surface of the string.

Comments about Dean Markley HELIX HD 2083 Acoustic Guitar Strings - 80/20 Med:

I bought these strings, based on Dean Markley's description, to set up an acoustic for slide guitar. With DM's elliptical winding process, they are advertised as being smoother than regular round wound strings. I have used D'Addario Chrome Flats on archtop guitars in the past and they are as smooth as glass but didn't want to used the Flats for acoustic slide.
I knew that the Helix strings wouldn't be as smooth as the Chrome Flats but I was very pleased when I installed them and tuned up. They are much smoother than other acoustic string and string noise is next to nothing compared to other strings. I usually use 011s for acoutic but installed medium gauge strings this time, 13-56, for slide - resonator strings are 16-58.
I was further pleased that even though these strings are heavier than I'm used to, the difference wasn't enough to cause me any issues when playing fingerstyle.
Flexible enough to play barre chords in the upper registers without problems
And if that isn't enough, when tuned to Open D or Open G, the bass response was great and overall, the tone seperation is very good.
Bottom line, this is now my Go To acoustic string. Planning to try their electric strings especially since they just released a pure nickel version of Helix strings

I purchased these on the strength of other reviews. They're a good set ( 3 weeks so far). good projection, balanced tone which is what I need for mic recording. I've just come off of elixers which lasted long but seemed to loose their tone quickly.

Comments about Dean Markley HELIX HD 2083 Acoustic Guitar Strings - 80/20 Med:

I have used these strings for a while now, and I'm completely sold on them. They give a full, ringing tone. I use them on a jumbo acoustic, and these are the best strings I have tried. I have used strings that sounded tinny on the same guitar, but there is none of that with these. I'll admit I get a little lazy and neglect to change strings as often as I should, but these strings seem to hold out longer than others, with very little loss in tone or sustain.
